I also wanted to say, I had a thought for a ocean based japanese themed entry for this contest, I hope you don't take it as plagiarism, but inspiration, since I enjoyed it quite a bit! I promise it is quite different.
What a haunting tale, the unreliable narrator really elevated it over other monster romance stories. Her callousness towards her neighbor's plight makes it more interesting than normal "misunderstood monster" tales.
