This is one of those times where "Japan-esque setting" is important, haha. In this setting, medical care isn't prohibitively expensive for people who are doing okay financially, though it can be enough to need payment plans or something similar.

Noa's got a lot of money right now for a teenager, not so much for an adult...but all of that's for a typical middle-class human. In pixie terms, he's absolutely loaded, and his time living with Miyori has only made that more clear to him.

Yeah, I didn't want the magic to be too powerful in this setting—it can do a lot, but not everything, and not all the time. And does it come through that warm, friendly people can sometimes scare me a little bit? Because they can, especially at first, so I gave Noa that trait too.

While they're very different people, one of the core traits that Noa and Miyori share is that they're both kind and generous in their own ways. (Kind of like Nataria and Senri in Hide Me In Your Heart, actually ) The story really wouldn't work if they weren't!
