Hi! I like to say that I am not a writer, I am a storyteller...who happens to suck at storytelling if it isn't in writing!

I have a military background and, though I do not identify myself as a 'military' genre writer, I would be wrong if I'd said it never influenced my work.

Otherwise, while I enjoy writing grounded, authentic, and satisfying, modern action sequences, my greatest experience is with historical fantasy, men-at-arms, and sword-and-sorcery, where my love of medieval history and traditional storytelling really shines.

Narrative expression and emotional storytelling is where I thrive most and I hope you'll graciously allow me the courtesy of showing you my passion!

"Before Christmas"—he says. Good God, I don't know how you plan to do it but you're a madlad if you can! 😵‍💫

Whenever you get around to it, dawg. If you get to the hiatus notice on Te Deum before I delete it when I resume writing that story next year, you'll understand how I've got no room to complain about anyone else not having enough time to read my stuff. 😂

Yeah, that's just prose. You've got one too. 👀

Fuck-if this story isn't so much easier to take on for me during the work day though. Instead of like singing a song without hearing myself, it's like singing one I already know by heart. 😩

So far I greatly appreciate the cultural dedication. It's got a great flavor to it that's considerate of the source material. The setting and somewhat of the character dynamic also reminds me an AWFUL LOT of 'Between Two Fires' by Christopher Buehlman.

I'm looking forward to reading all of this and seeing how it progresses. Especially if my assumptions based upon the cover are correct—our protagonist is a knight of a particular group of teutons?
...Or at least a fantasy equivalent?

Hyped to see how you handle that. 👀

I got the hanging gardens of Babylonia vibe from it for sure. I like the aesthetic. The city description very much feels like it's got a history and breathes independently from her author. 🤌

[The Sounds of Te Deum Laudamus]

Ninth Sound - Prophetarum Presignata, from The Dublin Troper, arranged by Michael McGlynn, and performed by Vocalis: https://open.spotify.com/track/0rcYuxZBXKuzGCoKwXaDwc?si=3YbZ4ooVQXCnlAWQtPS9oA&utm_source=copy-link

Originally found in the 14th century manuscript, 'The Dublin Troper', this piece was among the music contained within this literary work which outlines the liturgical customs and practices of the period for St. Patrick's cathedral in Dublin and features a blend of English, continental European, and traditional Irish influences.

Following in the common themes of these later sounds, the piece is a veneration of the Virgin Mary. My primary reason for taking my inspiration from this piece in particular though is simply the energy it has, particularly in this specific rendition. I feel the unique intensity among the other Sounds of TDL fits well with the tension of Lady Eleanor's knife fight of wills with Duke Edmund as well as the scene to follow...which I ended up just turning into a whole new chapter in its own right, so expect that shortly.

[The Sounds of Te Deum Laudamus]

Eighth Sound - Crux Fidelis, written by Venantius Fortunatus and performed by Clamavi De Profundis: https://open.spotify.com/track/1gfLIHLPNRLaEPjmTAFrGX?si=xjYCFJyyQLmz6zZl4FyBQw&utm_source=copy-link

A sixth century piece written by the Merovingian-Frankish poet, who would later become Bishop of Poitiers and a venerated saint, Crux Fidelis is a hymn dedicated to the cross and passion of Christ which is traditionally sang during the Adoration of the Cross during the liturgy of Good Friday and often Anglicized as 'Faithful Cross'.

On top of having the steady, solemn tone of this particular cover, I chose this piece based upon this chapter's events being the foundational beginning of Lady Eleanor's building of the cross that shall become hers to bear.

For now, one arduous step at a time, the journey begins.

I think mine would kill me if I let her do this all on her own for the sake of a story ironically dedicated to her. 🥴

Even with me being home, she gets upset that there's not enough time to get everything done around the house. Doesn't help that my absence has essentially demoted me in the eyes of the kids from 'dad' into 'tolerable step father', so she still gets woken up a lot in the night when they only want her. 😅
