This was actually really helpful to highlight some things that I missed explaining in the chapter. I added several notes for myself when I try to do a big revision. Thank you.
The reason they are not afraid of elves and only humans is because the two tribes have an understanding. Each keeps to their own side of the forest. The rule would be not to pass a certain line/threshold.
They punished Uriel because he is currently in between worlds. He arrived with the southern tribe making him a part of the tribe. Anything he does is a tribal action and should be punished the same as on of their own. He is also human so he doesn't get the same rights as an elf. As an adult member of the southern tribe, he has to protect children. As a human, he can not interact in a normal way.
The biggest miss on my part was Uriel accepting the whipping as a way to accept limited punishment to prevent worse confrontation. He isn't accepting the punishment, he is stopping conflict from hurting the southern tribe.
I have a feeling you will absolutely hate the next chapter 😅 But if you continue to read, I hope this next arc gives you a satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately for Uriel and Nimi, it only goes down from here 😱
Again though, thank you for the comments. I think they will be truly helpful when I complete this story and do a full improvement edit.
