And suddenly I like the emperor even less than before. Sure, not bothering to raise his children is shitty, although expected. He's probably super busy... Or just not a good father. Probably both.
And throwing his kids - his heirs - into an unknown, potentially dangerous situation is shitty. And stupid. Yes
But what pisses me off the most is the idea that this is for their own good. It's a particular level of smug and idiotic that rubs me the wrong way, and there's so many people that buy into the idea that suffering makes you stronger. It's such a backwards understanding of how things work, and so often used as an excuse to just be a shitty person.
