I had a feeling that Sun and Zheng had some hidden motive. In stories like this, one doesn't usually show their powers so willingly unless they had an ulterior motive. In this case, it was a silent warning for Shannon but, given her immersion in a new foreign land, she was completely naive to the possibility that there would be a test before reaching the academy.
While most would have crumbled at sea after being blindsided like that, Shannon stepped up to the challenge. Perhaps immaturity and inexperience played a role here since she's only 12 but this sets the stage for one of two outcomes... either she's going to get embarrassed and somehow still get accepted or Sun and Zheng will learn that Shannon is truly related to Allen.
My only worry is that if Shannon does end up besting the two of them, would that speak to her growth as outlined in the prologue or will it be an oversight that she's still supposed to be weaker than Allen? Also, if she is weaker than Allen and she bested them, then that would just mean Sun and Zheng talk a big game for being escorts but, in reality, aren't really all that powerful.
Either way, I'm invested to find out what happens next!
As a side note... hilarious parodies of social media. Perhaps when Shannon graduates, she would like to spend a day with Daiki and Miko on the PlayTerminal 5 while streaming on Twinge! =P
