Chapter 3:

Photos of You and I

Humanity's Last Hope

"Yunaria, I'm home!" Rin greeted as he took off his shoes and walked towards the kitchen with his hands full of groceries.

He silently placed down the grocery bags to the countertops as he realized that his sister was nowhere to be found.

"Yunaria?" he called his younger sister from the kitchen but only to find silence.

He was sure enough that his sister is at home since she doesn't have any classes to attend after her school field trip nor the type who leaves the house without him knowing.

He waited for a minute to passby, just waiting for his sister from the kitchen but not until he heard a familiar voice that only entered the house.

"I'm home~!"

Rin quickly dashed towards the door only to see his younger sister taking off her shoes. He quickly noticed the shopping bags on the floor as he studied that his younger sister was wearing.

She was wearing a simple pastel blue sundress while her hair was tied up like a ponytail letting her long wavy brown strands to put in one place.

Yunaria noticed Rin's glare from the shopping bags that were on the floor which she only laughed at.

"HAHAHA, It's not really expensive, my dear brother" she gleefully picked up the shopping bags on the floor and carried it towards the living room.

Rin simply followed his little sister from behind, Rin's kept on shooting death glares to his younger sister. Which makes Yunaria feel like her older brother is going to bore into her back head.

Yunaria hopelessly dropped the shopping bags as she sat down from the couch.

She shot Rin a death glare which made him flinch a little by his little sister's look. A smug was written on Yunaria's face while she crossed both of her arms together, she silently raised a brow daring her older brother to fight her.

Rin's eyes twitched by the sudden annoyance emitting from his younger sister's look.

"You look stupid" Rin bluntly said as he strode towards to the kitchen, preparing their dinner, not caring about the young lady who was fuming behind him.

Chopping sounds coming from the cutting board echoed around the silent house.

Rin who was silently cooking suddenly felt a cold sharp pain coming from his back.

"I'm sorry" Yunaria whispered from Rin's ear which made Rin groan in pain.

Yunaria pushed the ice cube to Rin's back causing him to shiver from the cold coming from the sudden contact of the ice to his skin.

As the ice melted, making a small drop of water from the hardwood floor. The back of Rin's pants were wet from the ice.

Yunaria quickly takes her leave by rushing towards her room leaving the mess behind to Rin.

"YOU DUMBO, CLEAN YOUR MESS!" Rin shouted from frustration.

"WELL MY MESS IS YOUR MESS, YOU IDIOT!" Yunaria answered back from her room.

Rin gripped his hold from the kitchen knife as he slowly took a deep breath.

"She's just a kid no need to be angry about it" he calmed to himself.

As Rin was calming himself down, Yunaria on the other hand was staring over the phone, scrolling through her gallery. Scanning the pictures that Rin and her took with a smile on her face.

She stopped at the photo where her older brother was jumping away from the fake skeleton when they were inside a haunted house during her 16th birthday.

*Flashback*

"You should've looked at your face back there" Yunaria laughed at her older brother's pale face.

"You we're so scared back there" she continued while Rin was still tired from screaming his lungs out and jumping around from the fake supernaturals that came from the haunted house they have just left.

"KYAH!"

"GAH!"

"MAY THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!" Yunaria mimicked Rin's voice and actions as they walked while the crowd exchanged glances to the two siblings. One who is embarrassed and the other kept on mimicking the action's of her older brother.

"Please stop." Rin murmured loud enough for Yunaria to hear him.

Yunaria stopped as she looked at her brother with a wicked grin forming to her lips as she slyly said;

"Make me, peasant"

Rin's ears twitched when he heard the word 'Peasant' coming from his younger sister which made him have the urge to hit her.

"Oh, Do you perhaps want to hit me with those filthy hands of yours?" she jokingly said, her smile not moving an inch.

Rin clutched his fists as his ears were burning red from frustration and embarrassment coming from Yunaria's actions.

Yunaria only clicked her tongue as she took out her phone, snapping a picture of her older brother who was still flustered.

"Hehe" she laughed which made Rin snap back his attention to her, only to see her usual cheery smile. He only took a deep sigh as he spoke.

"I'll let you off this time cause it's your birthday"

Yunaria only hummed in response as they both walked side by side laughing at the pictures they took from riding and entering different kinds of rides and places from the amusement park.

*End of Flashback*

Yunaria smiled at the photo that she and her brother took during her 16th birthday riding on the ferris wheel which was their last ride before her birthday ended at midnight.

Suddenly a swarm of what if's popped into her mind.

'What if I didn't recover my memories?'

'What if I didn't get curious about that strange looking cube from the antique's shop?'

'What if I didn't touch that strange cube?'

'What if I just ignored that strange man on the street?'

'What if I run away?'

'What if I leave my brother here, where there's no chance of him obtaining that strange cube.'

She was occupied by the thoughts of her head but it all shattered when she heard her older brother calling her for dinner.

"Yunaria, Dinner is ready!"

Yunaria's eyes lit up but it quickly darkened.

She heaved a sigh as she pushed herself off from her bed, walking towards her door a sigh leaving from her lips.

"Ah.. Yes.. Dinner" she sighed leaving her room, covering her face with her usual cheery smile.

"What's for dinner hmm?" she cheerly asked as she peeked from her brother's back only to see her favorite cuisines on the table.

"It's something you hate," Rin mumbled as he set out the plates on the table.

'Ah yes, something I hate' she thought to herself.

She quietly inhaled and exhaled as she wrapped her arms around her brother's back.

Rin suddenly freezes from the back hug which he slowly tapped to Yunaria's arms that were around on his torso, reassuring her that he is there.

Yunaria buried her face to her brother's back which made Rin chuckle.

"What happened to the bratty attitude you made earlier ago?" he playfully teased his sister.

Yunaria let go of the hug as she bubbly walked towards her seat which made Rin sigh in satisfaction.

They both talked about their past trips and adventures even the most embarrassing moments both of their lives. It was another lively dinner, just the two of them.

When they both finished cleaning their dishes they exchanged a goodnight with smiles on their faces, returning to their respective rooms and sleeping the night away.

3:15 am

A silent creek absorbed Rin's silent room as someone entered his room, not making any sound.

It silently approached Rin's sleeping form as it placed a sealed letter to Rin's nightstand. It quietly exited his room as it slowly closed the door, not wanting to wake the sleeping lad up.

****

He was standing in a sunflower field in peace, eyes were both closed enjoying the peace he was having as someone approached him.

"Rin" a woman's voice ringed to Rin's ears which made him crack his eyes open and look at the figure that was standing beside him.

"You really like the peaceful atmosphere here" the woman chuckled as Rin hummed in a satisfied voice coming from his mouth.

"It's really nice to be surrounded by these beautiful flowers that really represents my sister" he carefully stroked the petal of the sunflower.

"I see, so she grew up into a beautiful young lady" the woman smiled. Rin only nodded which made the woman let out a soft chuckle.

"You really adore your little sister, but what if you really lose her?" the woman questioned as she looked at the neverending sunflower field from the horizon.

Rin stopped stroking the sunflower as his smile dropped.

"What are you talking about?" he asked. The woman heaved a sigh as she said;

"Wake up, Rin"

"Rin your sister is leaving" a soft voice whispered to Rin's ear which made him quickly open his eyes.

His heart was beating fast as he muffled out of his bed having an ominous feeling around him.

He left his room in a hurry as he rushed towards his sister's room. Opening the door with full of anticipation and hope that his feeling was just a false warning.

But when he opened the room, his knees met the floor making a small thud from the impact.

"S-she's not here" he hysterically laughed as he placed his hand to his head almost like he's losing his mind.

"Why did you leave me too?" he hopelessly asked as tears started to stream down to his cheeks.
