Chapter 52:

Flying to the temple

Crimson Power Black Feather

They teleported to the roof of a building. It was very windy there. Embarrassment brushed over Maki's cheeks when he realized he had to carry Koga in his arms, bridal style.

Koga was silent, the wind disheveled his meticulously brushed hair, yet he stood there, unconcerned.

"Hey, how do you think we should do this?" Koga turned to Maki raising his voice, "I thought you would take me in your arms, would it be okay with you? Will your shoulder hurt?"

At that moment two sizable black wings appeared behind Maki, it was so unusual and impressive that Koga lost his breath for a moment. Maki approached him, nodding,

"It's okay. This is the best way, I suppose. Khm, if you are ready, we can fly now..."

"Okay...I am..." Koga turned his gaze up, looking at Maki carefully, he didn't expect to be so shy about it.

"Well... then I am taking you in my arms." Maki leaned down, taking the fox into his hands. He was strong indeed, the Koga didn't feel like much weight. He looked forward and took off.

"Wait! You didn't say anything about flying yet, oh my god!" Koga grasped at him, hiding his face in Maki's chest, and closing his eyes.

In a moment he heard Maki's gentle voice, "Hey, if you remain like that you will miss the lights of Tokyo you wanted to see. We are very far up now, I will not let you fall, so you can look."

"For real?" Carefully opening one eye Koga glanced at Maki's chin. His face seemed serious, as he confidently flew forward, his hair flowing behind him. The fox wondered if Maki knew how handsome he was at that moment. He cleared his throat, "I will look then. Please hold me tight."

Maki pressed Koga closer, without thinking about it too much. Because inside he was bursting with emotions. In the meantime, Koga lifted his head, turning his gaze down. The lights of Tokyo were somewhat how he imagined it, but much more fascinating. He held his breath, still afraid to fall. However, he couldn't look away trying to recognize the district beneath them. He heard Maki ask:

"Do you like it? Is it uncomfortable in any way?"

Koga replied, still observing the small buildings and neon shops, "I like it. I am so happy I manipulated you to fly me there."

Even though Maki knew that, he pretended to lessen his grip which made Koga instantly nervous,

"Hey, what are you doing? I am trying to be honest with you, don't punish me for that!"

"Okay. You are not the only one to tease." Maki looked down, laughing.

When Koga saw that smile, his ears twitched nervously, and he looked back down, as an excuse to break the eye contact.

They flew in silence for some time, and soon enough the dark forest consumed the lights. Everything remained illuminated solely by the moon. Flying made Koga sleepy, as he felt warm and safe in Maki's arms. Maki would glance at him from time to time, to see if the fox was comfortable. The flight seemed as romantic as he had imagined it. He was satisfied, so when Koga closed his eyes, and snug onto his chest, Maki couldn't help but dream of how nice it would be to have a real relationship.

They flew past one mountain, and then the next one showed its peak, pitch black. No one could ever tell that there stood a temple of any kind. Maki flew there and landed masterfully, unsure what to do. The temple was dark, which meant that Yoshio was either asleep or not yet home. However, given the late hour, it was probably the first option. Maki teleported to his room and put Koga on his bed. Uncertain what to do next he just sat down on the chair, observing the fox hug his pillow unconsciously. Realizing there was no way the fox would wake up any time soon, he decided to change his clothes and go to the bathroom.

When he came back after showering, he saw Koga in the same position, sleeping. Maki also felt tired, so he sat on the floor, leaning onto his bed, and closed his eyes.

Who knows how much later he was woken up by a pull on his shoulder. The room was illuminated with the lamp he forgot to switch off. He turned his head, sleepy, to see Koga pulling him onto the bed.

"Why are you on the floor? You have such a big bed, and you play gentleman with me?" Koga was squinting his eyes due to the light, half-awake. His strength was remarkable though.

"Um... Well. I thought you wouldn't like it if I lay there, without asking, I didn't want to wake you up..."

"Oh, shut up, get in already. You can lie like a princess on the other side, facing the wall. Or," Koga's voice became quiet," we can hug or something..."

Maki felt that he now was fully awake, and probably had no chance to fall asleep for the night if they were to cuddle. He, however, didn't want to refuse, so he snuck under the blanket quickly. He didn't make any moves, simply lying on his back, staring at the ceiling. Koga, still eyes half-open observed him with a smirk.

"So princess mode it is, well, I will continue sleeping then..." He wanted to turn around when he felt Maki's grip on his elbow. Koga twisted his head, looking openly at him, "Okay. I get it. I will hug you, don't be so quiet if you want something."

"I thought my intentions were clear after I got into the bed."

"Oh, whatever, " Koga leaned onto Maki's chest, "we have hugged today plenty. I thought you might want some space."

"Khm...It wasn't real hugging. We were flying."

"Sure, sure," Koga yawned, "I will talk 'bout it in the morning, in the meantime, you can think how are you going to explain this to Yoshio."

Maki sighed, "I... I don't know..."

"Shhh, I am sleeping," Koga put his left hand on Maki's neck.

At this point, Maki was certain: there was no way he could fall asleep now. He was afraid he would wake Koga with how violently loud his heart was beating in his chest. He felt Koga's ears brushing his chin, and Koga's ginger hair tingling his chest. He almost couldn't bear it. His right arm was stuck underneath Koga, so he could hug him easily, yet he chose to remain still, afraid to move. He closed his eyes, smiling. He didn't notice, despite his fears, that he too was soon soundly asleep.
