Chapter 3:

Gift Wrap part 2

The Paper Club

How can you make me do this, Tachibana, if it's only my first day?

"Wait, I don't even know what we do in this club and I already have a task to do?"

"There's no better way to learn than by doing, don't you think, Aimi?"

"I know exactly what you're talking about, Ryuko."

Their malevolent smiles intimidated me in a masterful way, I really can't refuse this request now, but what the hell am I supposed to do?

"Please come in and tell us a little about your request."

The girl entered and while she was settling her things, Tachibana approached me and whispered in my ear:

"Just listen with your heart and then she'll tell you what to do."

That was too close, her hair touched my nose and made it itch, but what really matters is knowing what the hell she meant by that.

"Aimi, take notes please, and Hadokawa..."

She turned to me and smiled.

"You just pay attention for now."

I remained silent and watched as the girl took her place:

"My name is Mitsuha Kayato and today a friend of mine is leaving Japan for good, he's not feeling well and it's no longer possible for him to live here because of the air. So they sent him away and... and I don't know, they told me that this place could help me, what should I do?"

It sounds like a simple request, they just need to stay in touch and meet up sometime when everything gets better, I don't know why she would need this club to do...

"What do you think, Hadokawa?"

"Eh?"

Wait, does she want an answer from me that fast?

"I think nowadays there are enough ways for them to stay in touch, they could even talk to each other every day, it's not very difficult."

I could only feel Tachibana and Sato's cold stares attacking me like a storm on Mount Everest.

"Of course I know that's possible, but... for some reason I feel that even if I see him and talk to him through that means, I feel like it's not enough and it crushes my soul because I know it's not enough."

The girl just squeezed the sides of the chair tightly while she was looking down, then I saw the first tears fall to her uniform and then she turned to look at me and I could see how sadness flooded her face, it was a sadness I hadn't seen anywhere.

"Please... it's not enough."

My heart felt heavy at that moment, I really felt like I had underestimated the situation and overlooked the pain this was causing the poor girl, I felt useless for not being able to find the right words to help her.

"Don't worry, we'll be happy to help you."Tachibana took the reins of the situation with that phrase, the girl's face went from that terrible despair to one of hope.

"The Paper Club accepts to help you with your request."
