Chapter 18:
Synthetic Love
I slowly opened my eyes, my gaze fixed on the high ceiling above me.
I couldn't shake off the events that had occurred in the East District last night
That's why when we spoke to Glen earlier, Annie and I had agreed to his suggestion to spend the rest of the night here at the Cranberry Estate.
"What a drag."
It was still fresh in my mind, and the thought weighed heavily on me.
As I lay there, I heard a familiar voice outside the door, accompanied by the sounds of arguing. . "What's going on?" I asked, my voice soft yet curious.
"Get out of my sight!" I heard Annies voice clearly irritated in the other side.
"You get out of my face!" Primrose's voice rang out, her tone filled with disdain
I get up from my bed and immediately rushed towards the door and twist the knob
I turned to see Primrose and Annie engaged in a tense interaction
"Why are you here anyways?"annie eyes rolled, showing her irritation. Annie, on the other hand, couldn't hold back her own frustration
"Are you here trying to murder Gerald since you failed in your first attempt?" Annie asked as she quickly moved over to my side, shielding me.
"How dare you say that!"
"Go to jail you freak!"
As I lay there, the tension between the two became unbearable.
"Stop it annie"I whispered to Annie trying to calm her down
Without warning, Primrose dashed over and clung to me in a tight embrace, sticking her tongue out at Annie. "Ahh, good morning, Gerald! Did you miss me?" Primrose exclaimed as she clung to me even more, wrapping herself around my arm like a clingy koala
Annie rolled her eyes, thoroughly frustrated by Primrose's behavior. But Primrose paid no mind, clinging even closer to me, her body pressed against mine.
"Why is she acting this way?" I wondered.
"Uh, good morning, miss primrose"I awkwardly respond I couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable as Primrose clung to me like a second skin.
"Why is Primrose acting like this? It's not like I forgot how she ran over me that day I was going out with Camella at the park."I wonder
As Primrose clung to me, she suddenly perked up and asked with a hopeful smile, "Hey, Gerald, would you do me a favor and ask me to be your date for our grandpas party tomorrow evening?"
Primrose, still not letting go of me, turned to Annie and said, "You don't need to come. There's no need for paparazzi at the party"
"I'm a journalist, not paparazzi. There's a difference."
"And even if I'm invited I won't come anyways"
Suddenly, Camela entered the room, . "Gerald," she began, her voice soft, "Would you mind taking me for a ride?"
"You trying to steal him again?"
"I'll make sure I won't miss next time "
"Miss primrose that's enough "glen said,,his voice steady"we already talked about this stop being so obsessed with Mr leondale"
"I can give you a ride home, miss Annie" Glen, noticing the situation, offered Annie a ride home, sensing the growing tension in the room
Annie blushed at the offer, a hint of embarrassment on her face. "Uhm, s-sure," she mumbled, accepting Glen's offer and Annie walked excitedly as she followed glen
I couldn't help but wonder where Camella was planning to go, but considering my role as her bodyguard,it was my duty to accompany her wherever she needed to go I had no choice but to agree
The more I observed Camella, the more uneasy I felt. It was undeniable that Camella was an incredibly realistic humanoid, almost flawlessly perfect. But I guess there's no such thing as perfect.
The more I thought about it, the more unsettled I became.
Primrose, still clinging to me, let out a sigh and rolled her eyes. "Ugh, I'm going to go look for a dress for the event tomorrow evening," she said, finally detaching herself from me. With a huff,
She then strutted out of the room, leaving an awkward silence behind her.
We walked and went to the front yard where the car is parked
Turning to Camella, I spoke firmly, "Hey, robot." She responded with her usual smile, to which I replied, "Just so you know, I don't want to drive."
"It's okay if you're tired," she said, I rolled my eyes, I watched as she opened the back door of the car.
"I can handle it for you." I couldn't help but scoff at her response.
Seemingly unfazed by my rudeness, Camella tilted her head slightly, an innocent smile on her face.
. "You seem upset," she said, her voice as calm as ever. I couldn't help but scoff, my frustration building. "What do you know about being upset? You're just a piece of plastic," I retorted, my tone harsh.
"And you're just a human made out of cells "she replied
As my irritation grew, I shot back, "Why don't I just sell you to the junk shop?"
"You can't sell me to the junk shop, you know. I'm not actually made of metal acceptable at the junkyard"Camella repliee with a calm and composed tone
"I'm made of various materials commonly used in humanoid robots," she started. "There's a strong inner structure of reinforced alloys, followed by advanced circuitry and sensor systems., such as a lightweight yet durable frame, servos, and actuators for movement. Additionally, On the surface, my apprerance is made more more realistic through the layer of synthetic skin made of a special type of silicon, carefully designed to mimic the appearance of real human skingiving me a life-like texture and appearance."
"You cares I hate you"I replie
"Why did you go to the East District? Did you really intend to kill Desmond? And why did you let me know about the apartment?"
I couldn't help but wonder why Camella had ventured to the East District last night. With a mix of curiosity and accusation, I asked her point-blank
" I questioned, my voice sharp.
Camella remained composed, her expression neutral. "There are many reasons for my actions," she replied vaguely. "As for telling you about the apartment, well, I had a feeling you would need that information eventually."
"Huh?"
Camella looked at me, her eyes fixed on mine. "My control system seems to have been activated" she began, her voice steady. "I feel like someone is controlling me, and I wanted you to be there to stop me. That's why I let you know about the apartment where Chris stays."
Camela silently observed driving and I didn't say anything else
She stopped and pull the car to A shop
As we entered the boutique, a wave of luxury and extravagance enveloped us. Staff members, dressed in sophisticated uniforms, greeted Camella as she walked past them, but she seemed unfazed by their attention.
As we entered the boutique, the staff immediately greeted Camella enthusiastically. However, she paid no attention to them, casually walking past without a glance.
The store exuded an air of luxury and elegance,
As I looked around, awed by the sight of the beautiful beautiful dresses and outfits on display, adorned with stunning dresses that reflected both timeless and modern fashion.
Nora 2 walked past the staff, and as she did, a memory flashed through my mind. I recalled the first time I had seen Camella behaving in the same manner.
A sudden skip in my heartbeat caught me off guard, my mind mom
entarily distracted by the uncanny resemblance between camela and nora 2
