Chapter 16:
Raceblazers
Wheels clashed against the road as other players began to rush past one another in an attempt to cause trouble for those that would try to get an edge on them.
The mayhem that occurred blended in with the sounds of crowds yelling to the top of their lungs as colors flashed everywhere at such a high speed.
For Chelbie, this was the biggest thrill of her life.
Speeding past without stopping would be the main goal. Her monster truck wasn’t the only one among the others though. Some of them were a lot larger than her own even.
As the road began to ramp up into the cloudy atmosphere, the pathway she was on also started to become narrow enough for one racer to drive within its lane. White lights shined bright atop the thick green walls which extended as far as Chelbie could see.
She also began to notice how far up they were from the stadium’s ground level. It was both immaculate and grandiose in scale for how much adrenaline was pumping through her body. The city’s view got smaller and this specifically was what made it more and more exciting to her.
Even with this in mind, she had to remember that her teammates were also either ahead or behind trying to make it as well. The swarm of emotions she had clouded her mind until a noise of crackling thunder interrupted those thoughts.
Chelbie looked upwards, clenching her teeth with determination as the rain began to drizzle down from the foggy skies.
“Time to show these guys how I do blazin’ out here!”
Searching around for an alternate route, a distant road had more lanes showing up ahead. It seemed to be leading downhill, but the bigger problem had a lot to deal with what would be happening the moment other racers got to that point.
In a matter of seconds, a crashing noise could be heard. A few cars flipped off the track and suddenly got struck by an unsuspecting red forcefield that made itself known once it dissipated the drivers and their vehicles into thin air.
This immediately heightened the potential danger that loomed over the entire population of racers that attempted riding downhill. Deaths started to pile up, with Lucila and her crew being one of the causes while bashing their opponents out of bounds for the sake of eliminating the competition.
A certain fear about what Zadz had said repeatedly messed with Chelbie’s head as she felt a frantic concern over any of her new friends being killed in the same way.
Even with the way Zadz treated her earlier, she could see that his reasoning wasn’t that far fetched.
If anything, it made her more curious than before.
Upon approaching the downhill part of the track, The Chadstorm Brothers were also gaining speed in their rusty white cargo vans. They came from opposite ends, with both of their racing vehicles being used to double-team on anyone that got in the way of them winning.
Recognizing Chelbie from earlier, the brothers ran into the wheels of The Flamethrottle Fury to try and trip the hulking vehicle. While the first hit nearly dented the sides of the monster truck, the force of gravity rushing these three vehicles forward gave Chelbie an idea.
By the time they reached the bottom (which settled the road back near the ground level), Brosxi and Broskl went in for one final hard crash before realizing what had happened.
Prior to the attempted collision, Chelbie used the curve of the ramp to do a nose wheelie, allowing it to run on its two front wheels for a short amount of time. However, it was just enough to avoid getting hit while watching the two vans collide before losing their grip and toppling over into the mysterious forcefield.
An expression of shock crossed her face as she passed the first hurdle and crossed the level’s first checkpoint.
Amazed at the sheer skill that she pulled off in a couple of seconds, she finally drove up through an interesting portal that she could only assume was the next stage that Trax told her would eventually be next to pass.
Unlike the first one though, a chilly breeze would come to highlight the new place Chelbie was going to encounter.
