Chapter 21:
Raceblazers
Coming from the racetrack and walking all the way to where her team was waiting, she had forgotten to check the leaderboard with how tired she was after having to deal with all of the crazy things that happened back there to her.
“Ugh. That stupid ass bot slowed me down. Wasn’t paying attention after the final stretch, but can anyone tell me who won?” she asked in an exhausted manner.
An unusual silence came from the entire group until Trax stepped forward with a look of sadness on his face.
“We won Chelbie…”
The persistent quietness confused Chelbie as she was pretty sure they should’ve been celebrating.
“I mean, that’s a good thing though right? One winning for the team means we all do right? Why are you guys not celebratin’ then?”
Chelbie’s eyes darted around at them, including Hisa who was sitting down in a chair with this somber expression on her face.
“You got disqualified,” said Zadz.
“I’m sorry, what? How did I get disqualified for handlin’ what probably was the hardest thing anyone could’ve ever done in a race? That literally makes no sense!”
“This is a wheeler race Chelbie. The moment your monster truck crashed, you lost. I wish the rules were different in that sense, but that is how it works. You can’t swap a vehicle in between it either. You went from that Flamethrottle Fury to roller skates? And then you ended up in last place. Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand your frustration, but I think you need to talk to President Daylight first. Plead your case with him. He is your only chance at getting back in,” stated Trax.
The disbelief that settled in Chelbie’s heart grew until she had no choice but to accept what was realistically the only way to get back in.
Without saying a word, Chelbie went inside of a bathroom stall to change from her original outfit. Tampering with the glove again for a few seconds, she then put on an orange sleeveless shirt that had a light blue lightning bolt logo in the top left corner and a teal-colored pair of boxer shorts.
Stuffing both the gloves and her iconic arm bands inside of her side pockets, she then took the old outfit and other gloves to stuff that into her backpack where she would leave it inside The Flaming Cone’s terminal station.
Upon looking around, she noticed that Mache and Zadz had left. All the while, Hisa and Zadz were talking to each other but she couldn’t really make out what they were saying.
“Hey sorry for interrupting but, I’m ready to go now. Where do I find President Daylight’s office?” asked Chelbie.
The two stared at one another before ending their conversation to help her.
“We’ll come with you Chelbs, Trax is willing to lead us all there so we can convince him to let you back in,” said Hisa.
Chelbie was ultimately surprised by this decision. She didn’t think they would have her back in joining once more, but apparently them being there for her like that made a few tears drop from her eyes.
“You guys are the best, you know that?” cried Chelbie softly as she hugged Hisa with a cute smile that made even Trax feel the warmth of their wholesome relationship through this moment.
“Well then, let’s see what the founder of the Blazethon is up to, shall we?” questioned Trax as they walked together in anticipation of figuring out if they could even convince President Daylight himself.
