Chapter 22:
Raceblazers
The three Flaming Cones walked together with a serious look on their faces as they stepped into an elevator that was located to their right inside of the Daylight Stadium’s mechanic station.
A silence permeated within the elevator itself as Chelbie had her arms crossed the entire time.
When they reached what was the 5th floor on this side of the building, they were greeted with a very dystopian looking hallway that would lead them to only one door.
President Daylight’s office.
Upon knocking, the door itself slid open on command to reveal President Keath Daylight himself who was sitting in his chair while staring them down as they entered.
A view of the city buildings across from them became noticeable with trophies laid out across on lengthy shelves that blocked it as well.
The carpet floor itself had this strange red X spread out which looked similar to the symbol strapped on The Skullspiker’s device.
Otherwise, most of the room was decorated with photographs of winning teams and leaders from every single world that he had met.
Hisa even saw Mr. Nebules (leading president of the StarSpace Air Corps) shaking hands with someone like him. It made her question exactly why he was smiling when their planet had gone through so much destruction already. Perhaps it was before The Great Invasion? She never remembered seeing any files that stated in hindsight that the two ever even shared a conference call or meeting.
Every single record documenting something like this happening would never have left Hisa’s mind.
It just wasn’t possible.
“Chelbie Chile, aspiring young mechanic with a heart of fire. What brings you back to me at this time of the hour?” asked President Daylight.
Getting straight down to business, Chelbie responded quickly without hesitating to justify herself.
“I’m guessin’ you saw the whole Skullspiker thing. See, Trax told me I got disqualified cause you said that once a vehicle crashes, ya lose.”
“Well, to be blunt, yes that is correct. I did find your bravery to be quite remarkable though. It was all over the news today and it made quite the headline.”
Although hearing this did heighten Chelbie’s realization that she got caught in 4K on live television pulling a one versus one against a machine, she had to snap out it to get a point across.
“Yeah, I certainly did own it out there, but I want to get something straight. I want to join the Blazethon again,” she requested.
“I see… What makes you qualified to join the largest racing tournament of all time? Last I recall, you came in last place?” inquired President Daylight as he shuffled his papers on the desk in order.
Her heart paused as she had a hard time finding the right words for her say it.
And it was only because it all tied back to Lucila.
Both Hisa and Trax started pleading separate cases for Chelbie which all had nothing to do with the real reason she came forward to join. While they were making appreciated stances to help defend Chelbie’s position in the race, she suddenly let her true feelings burst out after bottling them up for so long when Zadz asked her that other question.
“It’s a long story, but let’s just say that there is someone out there that made me the way that I am now!”
