Chapter 6:
To the day when I will finally look forward to Tomorrow
Around 6 months after we met, she called me and said she wanted to see me.
Having her make a selfish demand was unusual, but I didn't think much of it. If anything, I treated it like an everyday thing where friends called you in as a kid to hang out.
It was a weekday in the middle of the summer. I had off from work, but I had no plans of going out in that life-taking heat. Not without a good reason at least.
Come to think of it, we didn't hang out a lot lately exactly because of that.
Despite the heat, the day went pretty good. She was just like any other day, she made a whole plan, but still listened to any wish I had and adapted it.
I could say she went out of her way to please me even more than the usual.
At night, we missed the last train, so we had to stay at a hotel in the middle of the city. Of course, this is when a man takes it upon himself to pay the room. I do have my pride, actually, a lot of it.
In the morning, we didn't just go home after we woke up. She wanted us to spend even more time together. The look on her face was a bit tense, but I didn't pay too much thought to it since it could have just been because of a sleepless night.
We went for a coffee, laughed, and spent another day together.
At night, when it was finally time to part ways was when I heard it.
Haru: "So, what am I to you?"
I didn't think for a second we would have a talk about this at this point. I thought the status quo was good enough.
But, if only for a second before everything went out of control, I though about it.
A life with her next to me. I was going to seal the deal, I am sure of that. And then it happened.
Why? Why does it always have to be like this? Is this some kind of joke. The second I get the chance at a better life the world goes in flames? Isn't this a pessimistic joke we tell ourselves? Of course, if it was going to happen, it could only happen to me.
It didn't even have time to sink in, But, Maybe just for half a second, I was actually looking forward to tomorrow.
