Chapter 14:
To the day when I will finally look forward to Tomorrow
She was just a normal woman, mother of 2 kids, enjoying her day off in the middle of the summer.
She was actually thinking about her kids at that moment.
Her daughter, still in high school, was wandering around in the woods next to home. She picked up this habit after she went on such adventures with her older brother a couple of times.
Her son, he had already outgrown his home country and moved almost half the globe away to Tokyo. She missed him dearly, especially since they didn't talk that day. But he did message her once during the day, so she knew he was doing fine.
As fate would have it, it was at this moment that the disaster struck, and before she could understand what happened, she found herself high up on a wall overlooking, on one side, what seemed like a city, and on the other side, the vast wilderness.
A lot of people would be captivated by such a view, but not her. She was afraid of heights.
After being brought down within The Hub. She went through the same process that everybody goes through.
She found out about the time leap, and as a caring mother, she started looking for her family, only to soon find out that all of them were yet to reach the present.
?: "But the good news is that, as far as we were able to calculate, most of the people alive at the time of the disaster have already reached this place. Only a few left. With some luck, you will all get to meet someday.
But years passed by, and nobody showed up.
Disheartened, she started living a solitary life. Every day was the same, and none of those days brought any joy.
What good is a long life if there is nothing that makes it worth living? On the contrary, some would consider that a curse.
But she didn't think about it, because every passing day, she would repeat to herself:
"Maybe you will finally find me tomorrow."
She knew going on a wild goose chase was not something she could do, so she just waited.
As a caring mother and wife, she kept a warm house for her family to come back to. She even set it out to be exactly like the one they used to live in.
Months passed. Years even became decades. She was told she had about 100 years to live if she took proper care of herself with the help of modern facilities, and so she did.
She decided to make her life as long as possible, if only for the chance of seeing her loved ones once more.
Even so, 50 of those years had already passed.
...
On another one of those meaningless days, she hears the door unlock.
It felt like nothing had changed. She knew exactly who would enter the house just from the speed used to turn the key and the strength used to open the door.
And when the door was opened, all she could say was:
"It took you long enough."
