Chapter 679: Head of Surveillance

Narrator: In the Stargazer.

Laila and Jeff approach Dusk.

Jeff: “Nice work taking out that guy. This will certainly make things much easier I imagine.”

Laila: “That doesn’t mean that it’s safe here yet. Should we hide the dead bodies?”

Dusk: “There’s no need. We’re going to launch this ship out of here into space. We need the ship to be out of harm’s way.”

???: “You won’t be going anywhere.”

Dusk, Laila, and Jeff all open their eyes wide as they are alerted to the voice. They turn around to see Ronzic who looks at them with a sharp glare.

Dusk: (Speaking with mild panic) “Ronzic!?”

Ronzic: “What exactly do you think you are doing? You released the mortals and then came aboard this ship to take it away… I am not pleased.”

As Ronzic finishes speaking, he notices Tuck’s dead body on the floor. He clinches his fist as a few veins pop out a little.

Ronzic: (Speaking with a hint of anger) “You are not under a spell like Miss Sasha is and for that, you will suffer severe consequences. No dark divine being or demon would ever betray their comrades.”

Ronzic turns his attention to Laila and Jeff.

Ronzic: “As for you two and the rest of the mortals, you all will be put under personal watch from our guards. You will do as we say.”

Dusk grits his teeth as a sweat drop drips from his forehead.

Dusk: (Thinking) “This is not good…”

Narrator: A little bit earlier. In an outdoor area of Planet Pylon.

Herbie walks away with Ronzic’s base in the distance behind him. He has his sights set on a tower that sits at the top of a hill.

Herbie: (Thinking) “This is the most critical part of our rebellion. I have planted seeds all over the base, both inside and outside, and I need to use the broadcast system in this tower to command all of them to sprout at the same time. One thing is for sure, the tower won’t be empty. I will have to kill whoever is in there to avoid our plan being found out. Whoever it is, I’m ready.”

Herbie begins walking up the hill while keeping his focus on the tower.

Herbie: (Thinking) “There doesn’t seem to be anyone keeping watch outside of the tower. Good! That will make this easy! This is going to be such a cinch for me. Hopefully, that bozo, Dusk, won’t screw up on his part. I certainly have little confidence in him!”

Narrator: Inside the tower.

A computer screen is focused on Herbie as he continues to walk up the hill. A female voice begins speaking.

???: “Hmmm? Who is that? Let’s get a closer look.”

The screen zooms in on Herbie for a closer look.

???: “Ah, he appears to be a demon. What could he be heading this way for? Perhaps he brings new orders from Lord Ronzic?”

Narrator: Back to Herbie.

Herbie: (Thinking) “So, what’s my plan when I enter the tower? I’ve never been inside it but I need to ready myself for anything. Taking out a communication system should be my priority so perhaps a stealthy approach would be best. I just hope that whoever I have to kill is not standing near it when I get inside.”

Herbie soon reaches the top of the hill and finds himself at the tower’s entrance.

Herbie: (Thinking) “Uhhh, it doesn’t exactly look like there is any way to sneak in, and climbing the outside would be super suspicious-looking. I guess I really do have to go right through the front door.”

Herbie walks up to the tower's front door and pushes a button that is to the left of the door.

Herbie: (Thinking) “Well, here we go.”

The door opens and reveals a medium-sized room with an elevator at the back of it. Other than the elevator, there are many seats for people to wait in but there is currently no one in the room. Herbie walks in.

Herbie: (Thinking) “Nice! I won’t have to deal with anyone in here.”

Herbie walks up to the elevator and simply looks around it.

Herbie: (Thinking) “Yep, it seems to be a normal elevator. I can’t imagine the only official way to the top of the tower would be set with traps.”

Herbie pushes the button next to the door which causes the door to open. He walks into the elevator and pushes the button. The door closes and then the elevator begins to rise.

Herbie: (Thinking) “There’s no going back now. I absolutely need the person up at the top to not be near their communication system!”

Soon, the elevator reaches the top and stops. The door opens and he sees a woman standing at the controls of the tower who is looking directly at him. The woman has long mid-back-length dark red hair, she is wearing a brown button-up uniform. She has dark divine eyes. She looks like a woman who would be in her 20s. She smiles welcomingly at Herbie.

Narrator: Head of Surveillance – Hayleen

The room is octagon-shaped and has windows covering almost every direction. On a wall where there are no windows is the communication system. Herbie quickly eyes the system and then darts his eyes back to the woman.

Herbie: (Speaking politely) “Hello there.”

Hayleen: (Speaking warmly) “Hello to you, sweetie. I saw you approaching the tower. What brings you here today? Did Lord Ronzic wish to send someone to speak to me personally?”

Herbie: (Continuing to speak politely) “Why yes, miss… uhh…”

Hayleen: (Continuing to speak warmly) “My name is Hayleen.”

Herbie begins walking forward, keeping aware of the position of the communication system.

Herbie: (Speaking with only a slightly polite tone) “Yes, miss Hayleen. I am here to speak to you personally.”

Herbie stands next to the communication box hanging on the wall. While still keeping his eyes on Hayleen, he uses his left fist and smashes the communication box.

Hayleen opens her eyes wide, finally breaking her warm and welcoming smile.

Hayleen: (Speaking in confusion) “Lord Ronzic wanted our communication system replaced?”

Herbie raises his left eyebrow while squinting his right eye.

Herbie: “Huh!?”

Narrator: Herbie has come prepared to kill the one in the tower only to find himself confused about her confusion!
