Chapter 30:
Limitless Vlogging: A journey around the utopian supercontinent
After a long night of reconciliation, the dawn of the next day arrived.
"You can warp back, so I expect frequent visits!" my mom called out.
"And don't stay out too late!" my father added.
"Got it, got it," I waved as me and Irina stepped outside.
"Well that sure was a night, but at least ya made up with your folks," Irina chuckled.
"Yeah, 500 years worth of scolding... condensed. At least the slate's clean now. Plus, I can warp back anytime, which is nice. Now no matter how far we go, I can always come back home in a flash and back."
"Isn't the future great... Heh, just listen to me. Say, wanna come with me real quick to see my old man? We've got time before the baseball game."
I nodded and we were off to Decembertown in a flash. There, we found a blonde bearded man in a Hawaiian shirt sitting on a bench, admiring the lights. As he took notice of us and turned around to greet us, I froze as I recognized his face.
"M- Mr. Jantar!?"
"That's right! You didn't think I'd just wallow in the old era. I wanted to see the new era, but first, I had to plant some seeds so that I could bask in their shade when they grew into trees," the man proclaimed.
I nervously nodded and turned to Irina, wondering what to do, only for her to say something that left me even more speechless.
"That's my old man, Erwin Jantar."
"Your- HUH!? But I thought your last name-"
"Changed it, just like you changed yours from Mangetsu to Hangetsu. Now, hate to make ya play third wheel, but I gotta chat with daddy bout something," Irina smiled as she sat down next to her father.
I awkwardly stood by the lamppost, trying not to seem like I was imposing, but nonetheless, I heard their conversation loud and clear.
"So Irina, what is it?"
"Old man, I finally see why you like this world so much. Sorry for not seeing it when I was younger."
"How so? Kids aren't meant to understand stuff like that. That's what growing up is for."
"Ugh, sometimes I wanna smack you. But I get it, what I couldn't see when I was younger, I can see now, all thanks to Hana."
"Was that all you wished to tell me?"
"Yeah, we got a game to go to after all."
Irina's father simply smiled and returned to staring at the lights. "Before you leave, a question for Miss Hangetsu; what do you think of the lights?"
Mr. Jantar was directing a question at me!? Well, good thing it's an easy one.
"I think it's wonderful. Christmas lights are a modern marvel of the world, but sadly they're only up for a month before they go down. To see a town filled with them year-round is amazing."
"Worm really fought his heart out in that grand finale war. And it was worth it. Maybe some won't consider it perfect, but perfect's impossible to achieve anyway. What matters is that you enjoy it. Of all the things in this era, this is by far my favorite. It may not be as flashy as some of the other things, but it's full of nostalgia, memories of the most wonderful time of the year. Thank you for helping my daughter appreciate this true utopia we now live in."
I simply smiled and nodded before Irina dragged me off.
...
As soon as the two had left, Erwin turned to notice a woman with long straight pink hair approaching.
"Irma. Didn't want to say hi to them?"
"No, you're the one Irina wished to speak with," the woman stated as she sat down.
"Still acting like a servant. Irina would rip you a diss track if she saw it."
"Remind me again why I married you?"
Erwin burst into laughter and patted Irma on the back. Always an odd one, but so am I, and so is our daughter. Now, care to fathom a guess as to where they'll go after the game?"
Irma shook her head. "It's impossible. There's limitless options."
"And limitless possibilities," Erwin added as he leaned in for a kiss.
To this day, Irma still couldn't fully understand Erwin, or the feeling of love. Nonetheless, the experiences she had with him were unlike anything she experienced before, making her crave more and more of it.
"Perhaps I am an oddity as well," she sighed as she accepted Erwin's kiss.
"We're an oddball family. Now, shall we visit the sky swan lake?" Erwin asked as he rose.
"Again? We were just there yesterday."
"That's why I'm going again, the place makes me happy and offers a great view of the world from above. The world our daughter finally loves."
Irma sighed, but began smiling and following Erwin. "So Irina is finally happy. For some reason, that makes me happy too. Perhaps I'll travel along with her and her friend at some point, to see just how happy she is up close."
...
At the baseball stadium, we met up with everyone and headed to our seats.
"I brought extra noisemakes for everyone, so feel free to do what you want with them," Lyn smiled as she handed out inflatable noisemakers.
"Don't hit anyone on the head with them though," Selena glared.
"Yeah, that's what rubber bats are for," Meredith snickered as she began wielding her noisemakers like swords.
"Doest thou wish to battle? I'll have you know I am trained in sword-play martial arts," Jade glared as she assumed a combative stance.
"Go fight with them in a wider area then. We wanna enjoy the game without getting whacked," Delina growled.
"If you do fight, try and hit the noisemakers together in a rhythmic kind of way," Suzie called out.
"Good thinking. Hana, come film it," Meredith snickered as she attempted to drag me away.
"No way! I wanna watch the game! Use your own camera!"
Before we could argue any further, it was time for the first pitch. Today, the guest of honor was none other than Worm himself. He wound up his arm, but instead of a baseball, a giant asteroid flew out.
"WAR!"
I froze in terror, but luckily, the batter managed to hit the asteroid, bursting it into baseball-sized chucks, as it flew everywhere. A piece headed down towards me, but thanks to good ole gravity-aid, it descended slowly enough for me to grab it without hurting myself.
"A commemorative baseball. Fitting souvenir from your homeland," Irina smiled as she tossed her own souvenir asteroid baseball in her hand.
"Souvenirs, huh. Perhaps that's what the main focus of our new journey will be," I smiled as I extended my selfie-stick out. "Come on, everyone! Let's get a group shot before the game starts."
"We only got a few seconds, then!" Delina fumed.
"Only takes a few seconds to take a photo that will last a life-time."
And with that, we managed to get a group selfie in before the game began. I don't know what I'll do after this, or where I'll go. But I do know, I'll most certainly be vlogging it, and traveling with Irina. And if the others wanna join in, the more the merrier. This supercontinent has limitless things to do, and if I decide to venture outside the planet, even more limitless things to explore.
With the ability to warp back to any place I've been to before, I have no qualms about venturing as far as the world goes. Now, wherever and whenever, I can always warp back home for a good old fashioned family dinner.
