Chapter 0:
How Farheen Found Herself
The protagonist is a thirteen-year-old girl named Farheen. A typical eighth-grader in a school where friendships are valued highly. She has three friends. At least, that’s what she tells herself. But deep down, she knows the truth. They talk, laugh, and share things, but it never feels the same on both sides. She tries harder, gives more, and cares more. And they? They remain distant, as if she is merely an option, not a priority.
Then there are the two guys—half friends, half strangers. They talk and joke around, but there is always an invisible line between them. They never truly let her in. Perhaps they liked her, or perhaps not. Perhaps they cared, or perhaps not. But she was never just a friend, never anything more, and she was always caught in the middle.
It’s strange, feeling alone even when you’re surrounded by people. She tries to be there for them, but what about when she herself needs someone? Nothing. It is as if she is looking at her own life from the outside, wondering if she will ever have friendships that do not feel one-sided.
Perhaps it is her. Perhaps she expects too much. Or perhaps she was never supposed to fit in.
