Chapter 1:

Life?

Paradox

Life... what is it? Is it something that supposed to make someone happy...? Or is it a lie to reality? I wake up every day and do the same routine but never find happiness... why? My parents died when I was seven in a car crash and I had nowhere to go. I was thrown in an orphanage but l was never lucky to get actual good foster parents. They harmed me and bruised me but never killed me. I wondered why? Was bruising me their happiness? Or was it just a game to them?

I arouse from my bed one morning with my semi-long black hair all over my face. As like every day, I continued my routine, I brushed my teeth and showered then proceeded to get something to eat. Then I heard my foster parents talking, they wanted to poison my food. “His tuitions are making us lose the money, he has no future to give us and we shall give him none either”. I pretended not to hear the conversation and tiptoed back into my room.

I started to pack necessities to run away from that wretched household. I heard footsteps and the constant clanging of a China teapot coming towards my room. This was the first time I felt that my life had some meaning even a little. This wasn't happiness, it was fear. Fear to make sure I stay alive and away from those demons. I jumped without hesitation through the only window in my room from a two-story house. I bolted the fast as I could, I heard my foster parent screaming in the distance and as it sound was getting softer and softer, I was struck with anxiety. ‘Where was I supposed to go? is there hope for me? where am I going to stay? Can I make a living?’. Even doubting myself I ran even faster then there was this salt substance running down my face through my eyes.... Were these tears? It can't be... I have never cried in my life... But why...? Was it that I was now facing reality or was I just heartbroken that they would stoop so low?

I slept on benches in public parks and even in malls, I had nowhere to go I sometimes wish I did actually drink that poison but my heart and mind told me, no. It was freezing cold, I needed someone to save me. Then as I was walking through an abandoned alleyway filled with garbage; I found a little girl. She had silver white hair and was pretty. The only thought that ran through my mind was ‘Why is this girl alone and by herself?’. As I moved closer to talk to her the distance just kept on going like this alleyway was a never-ending loop. It was as if I was in one motion that never stopped. My body was getting tired but I was not giving up. Then the little girl turned around her face and everything just reminded me of snow. Never-ending snow even the look she gave me was cold but yet warming in a way. Then the little girl said, "what is your name?”. I tired and shaking from exhaustion replied with, “Ren Sutaraito”

She then gave a sign with her finger to come closer, I steadily walked towards her with caution before that loop that defies physics happened again. I could have told that she was not any ordinary person. Even so, I still reached out to her even knowing that I might get harmed and asked her “what's your name?”. She looked towards me with dead set eyes and replied “Lily Yuki”. “Are you sad?” she mumbled to me. I just told her “I don't know”. I just tried to make her not talk to me much since I had no experience with communicating with girls.

A few hours passed with complete silence. Then out of nowhere she stood up and faced towards me with a smile, my heart sunk. “To be honest I was waiting for you, open out your hands”. I was hoping it was food but it was something looking like a crystal. “What am I supposed to do with this?! It's not edible!” She looked at me with a cold stare, the heart that was sinking in her beautiful smile just got overloaded with sheer cold. “Look at it and you will save us from here” she said calmly. I retorted, “What is this actually? Can we make money out of it?”. She slapped me and held me by my t-shirt with tears in her eyes, “please...”. I looked at it but nothing was happening. Until I started to see two people. One was a silver haired woman and a middle-aged old man. The middle age man looked scarily similar to me. Then I started to dose off like I got drugged and the last thing I remembered that they were my parents...in the crystal.
