Chapter 376:
En Passant Grandmaster
Welcome back from the break! Now, give it up for our guest, Japan's Okisato Tanabe!" Kisha smiled.
Okisato nodded as Kisha began the questioning.
"So, I've got a host of questions for ya. First being, just how many languages you know, kid!?"
"A lot."
"Could ya be more specific?"
"Sure. In addition to my native Japanese, I know English, Danish, German, Hungarian, Mongolian, Hebrew, Romanian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, and French."
Kisha's eyes narrowed. "That all?"
A slight scowl appeared on Okisato's face. There were some other languages he did know, but he wanted to keep that hidden. But there were a few he didn't mind tipping his hand on.
"Alright, you got me. I didn't want to flex THAT much, but I also know Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. Chinese too."
Kisha's glare didn't lessen. "And?"
"'And' what do you mean?"
"Something's not adding up. You gave disses in Mongolian, Bosnian, and Hungarian, and are fluent in the native languages of the teams you and your female compatriots have played, except for your second round opponents! So care to enlighten me?"
If Okisato had know this was how the interview was going to go down, he wouldn't have agreed to show up. Kisha was sharp, but luckily she was digging in the wrong place.
"Ah, you're wondering about why I didn't say I knew Icelandic or Italian? Well the truth is I didn't feel the need to bother with them."
"Really?"
"Yes, but if you like, I can learn them both now."
"Wait, really!?"
"Yes, now first up, we'll do Icelandic," Okisato stated as he pulled out his phone.
In truth, he really did know both languages, but that would remain hidden. He really didn't like tipping his hand so much, but there was no hiding the fact that he was a polyglot, especially with videos of his multilingual disses already online. While he didn't mind confirming he fact that he knew languages he had spoken aloud, or told others he knew how to speak, he truly did want to keep the true amount of ones he truly knew hidden. Thus, he decided to put up this act, hoping it would be enough to stop Kisha from digging any further.
"Nú hef ég lært það. Hamingjusamur núna [Now I've learned it. Happy now]?"
Kisha's eyes widened a bit. "I- In just a minute!? No WAY!"
"It's possible if you're smart."
"Yeah... Ah, guess I should move onto other topics! We're short on time, after all. You're infamous for playing dubious openings and winning with them. How the hell do you do it?"
"Easy, just like any opening, you study it extensively."
Kisha nodded, and decided to move on to the next question. Luckily for Okisato, the hard part was behind him and everything from here on out was a breeze. Once the interview was finished, he stepped out and encountered Mimoko and Daria on his way to breakfast.
"So how'd the interview go?" Mimoko asked.
"I managed. How are you holding up?"
"Fine. Sure my hair and skin are still blue, but at least I've got a spare pair of my team outfit as you can see."
"They'll likely call you for an interview considering all that's happened. Can you handle it?"
Mimoko put her hands on her waist and proudly smirked. "I'm used to interviews by now."
Okisato nodded and headed off as Mimoko and Daria continued towards the makeshift studio.
