Chapter 6:
Harpy x Harpie: Switcharoo
"So, that's the story, ma'am. Again, I didn't have any attention to harming your daughter or anything. I'm just an unemployed person bored with life and met with... Honestly, I don't even know what I call that old lady. She said she was a magician, but I don't particularly see it that way. Then somehow, some way, I ended up here."
I thoroughly explained how I ended up here to the elderly harpy, and it seemed that she bought it. She has processed what I've told her, and she finally replied to me, "First, I want you to respect my daughter's boundaries. Because at first I thought you were a woman, turned out you are a man, huh?" I could hear her whisper, *Discusting*
"Second, I might have an answer to this bizarre phenomenon. You just need to wait here!"
Aaaand she's gone. No, wait, she's back.
"In the meantime, learn bird language with this book. I wanted you understand it before morning!"
I was shocked by that statement and said, "Wait! Hold on! You expect me to learn bird language with this thick book by morning?!"
She had already flown away before I even finished my sentence.
I was skeptical at first, but upon learning the language, I was shocked at how easy it was. Their alphabets are the same as ours humans, the only differences are grammar, phrasing, and word orders. It was so uncanny in a way. No wonder that elder harpy could understand human language so fluently. She has been learning this so much.
When the sun rose, the elder harpy came back and greeted me, "Hey, human, have you heard of evil corporation in your area of town?"
I was confused that she opened up the conversation like that, so I responded, "Huh? Evil corpo? Why would I know?"
Then she revealed another big book to me, whilst wearing her glasses. I was stunned by her look, she was so gorgeous.
"What are you looking at?"
"Nothing! I just thought you looked so gor..."
"Watch your mouth, human. Or I will kill you when you are back in your body."
I heard that statement and thought about it. Then I asked her, "Eh... sorry, ma'am, if this sounds rude, but I just read the rules of harpies in this book that you gave me. I read that your species... use... us to... reproduce... even when you all... don't have any... mutual feelings, you force it onto us... plus, when we are... fighting back... you will kill us... Is that... true?" I was stuttering so much to ask that straight into her face, so I threw my face away.
A little bit of silence occurred, which made me look back to her. To my surprise, she looked touched.
"I... I never thought you'd be able to read through five thousand pages. Let alone 10 pages of words. Aren't human literacy lower in this day and age?"
As a consumer of manga and light novels, I felt attacked by that statement.
"I... Well, some of us like to read."
"Not my daughter", she said with a long sigh at the end.
"Huh?"
"Ah, sorry. I became emotional for a second there."
"Your daughter doesn't like reading?"
"No... more like her attention span is very low. She always read about 5 to 10 pages of a book then change to different book to keep herself entertain."
Oh crap. Right now, she's probably in my body; I hope she didn't find any of my doujinshi. I don't want her to see, "I will love my GF even if she has cooties," or "Wanna Bath." Even worse, "Metamorphosis."
I stopped overthinking about that and continued to ask questions, "So...?"
"Hmm?"
"Is it true you use us?"
"Well, most of the humans we use are men, but not all men. I don't want to even hurt people like you. That's just too cruel."
Somehow, this body reacted to that statement. It felt like her body was relieved from the traumatic event that she had been through.
"Well, gotta say, you are one of the kindest humans I've ever met, Harpie. So, you don't have to worry about us using you as our own. In fact, I want you to be free from my daughter's body."
"I wish we can do it faster."
"I hope so too."
We shared a moment for a second before she said, "Ah, I found the page. Here! The evil corporation I talked about. Carmarddion."
The elder harpy and I read through this chapter about evil corporations from the book to get a better understanding of what these evil corporations do in this land. I had seen a lot of nasty things happen in the real world, like game company greed or food chain meltdown, but nothing quite felt the same as Carmarddion Corporation Company.
"I guess this is it then. We'll take down this company together, right?"
The elder harpy looked at me with a restless face.
"No?"
"You are barely using my daughter's body properly, and you want to go to war without even training first?"
I kind of knew that I had to train first, but after seeing her reaction and reflecting on my first statement, I could see where she was coming from.
The elder harpy walked to the front window and looked to the sky. I followed her and saw the sun almost at the top.
"Well, today probably is a great day to start training before the big day. I'm sure there will be hunters around the forest that you can use for training dummies."
"What? We are going to fight my kind... as a training? Isn't that... a bit much?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean... your daughter's body... She is reacting to that statement. Like she refuse to do it."
After I said that, she just looked at me like I was her own daughter pleading about her weakness.
"Eh... you know what. I'm just going to find someone capable of training you properly. I think I'm not good at handling this matter."
"How about your daughter's friends? They were her age, right? I want to be able to be close with them too."
She turned to me very quickly and said, "Really?"
I was confused, and then it just struck me, "Wait! No, I'm not hitting on them. I just want to get to know them. I swear."
"Yeah, sure, human," she said, and then flew away.
"Aw, man. Why have I ended up like this?"
