Chapter 2:

Past memories

The Cat, Mia and the stars

Walking through the park, I see little birds perched on a towering tree, so tall it looks like It could touch the sky. Just the thought of climbing all the way up there, scared me. I wonder what the sky is really like. Mia has always loved the stars. Every time, she and Sam, the little rascal who’s always at her house, talk about becoming astronauts so they can explore space in search of the brightest star of all.

Last summer, those two troublemakers tricked me with delicious biscuits just to make me play AstroCat , a character from their favorite comic book. The cape they put on me was so annoying it made my fur all frizzy. That afternoon, they had me running around like crazy, and by the end of the day, I was completely exhausted. Although I must admit that I was really happy. (Especially for the cookies they gave me after).

“Hey furball! Finally decided to get some proper exercise?” Jack, the police doberman, plops down beside me, as I take a break under the shade of a cherry tree.

“ Hey jack… how’s it going?” I replay panting from exhaustion as I stretch my back.

“ Always in top shape brother . There’s a competition at the police station, I need to train hard to make a good impression and win a medal. That way, little Ricky will be proud of me” Jack sits with perfect posture, and despite all the running he’s done , he doesn’t look even slightest bit tired. Just looking at him radiates confidence and strength.

“Well, good luck then. But make sure you eat properly too, you’ll need the energy to train at your best” I say licking my paw, which still smell like fresh tuna.

“Of course brother. Whenever you want, come train with me. Exercise is good for your health! Jack shouts as he sprints away.

With the birds chirping around me and the gentle warmth of the spring sun, I drift off to sleep, completely worn out from all that effort.
