Chapter 25:
Black & White: Spirits, Love, and Traditions
The large samurai stepped out of the corner, holding his two massive blades. The demigod, Ogun, did not even flinch. He barely even noticed the samurai's presence.
His attention was on Jumo—the mortal boy who thought he could use his powers without permission. Ogun had deliberately stopped his transformation halfway, leaving the boy's body horribly disfigured.
The boy was now suffering. And it was good. That was what he deserved. Maybe next time, he wouldn't steal a god's powers again. However, Ogun wasn't planning on there being a next time.
The child died here.

As soon as the samurai moved to engage, Sakuya became the trigger. She took off running toward Jumo, causing Ogun to take notice. From the corner of her eye, she saw the demigod shifting into a running stance, preparing to charge at her. But then the samurai stepped in between them.
Sakuya reached Jumo without issue. She covered her mouth in shock and immediately dropped to her knees, cradling his head in her lap. Tears streamed down her face, dripping from her chin. What was Ogun doing to him?
His eyes were closed. His body was blackened. His left arm was bigger than the right, his right leg was twisted and broken. His breathing was shallow. He had stopped shaking.
Suddenly, fear for his safety consumed her. She was too overwhelmed to think—he was dying, and she was powerless to stop it.
***
Ogun rushed at the samurai.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.
He swung hard at the samurai's head, but the gentle spirit moved back at the last minute, narrowly avoiding the demigod’s massive hand.
A brief moment of stillness. A heartbeat. The samurai thought he saw an opening and took it, following with a double slice of his blades, aimed at Ogun’s chest.
Slash. Slash.
But nothing happened.
Ogun smiled.
It didn’t even leave a mark.
...
The samurai immediately put some distance between himself and the god. It was clear who was stronger. Offense was not the better strategy. He just needed to stay alive long enough for the spirit guardian to save the boy.
So he went on the defensive.
