Chapter 410:

Repeat sweep

En Passant Grandmaster

Iori scowled as she got into the elevator and headed down to the dining hall, phone in hand.

"The Czechoslovakian sweep... I wanted to see this shit live," she moaned as she stared at a video on her phone.

In the video, Laia opened the game by moving her knight to c3, while Lucie blinked in confusion for a bit before moving her pawn to c5.

And then, Laia moved her pawn to b4, and Laila threw her arms up in frustration. "And the Ecuadorians won't be sweeping the Czechoslovakians. Nope, done, nothing. Now lets move on to something else so we don't make our audience puke from the sheer insult that's about to unfold from Ecuador's white-haired player."

"Why? We gotta see if the Ecuadorians can sweep the Czechoslovakians, besides, Lucie just moved her pawn to d6, and the eval bar says things are equal," Danny protested.

"WHAT!?"

Laila returned her gaze to the game and watched in fury as Laia captured the pawn at c5 with her b-pawn and Lucie moved her queen to a5. "Lucie..."

Laia captured the pawn at d6 with her c-pawn. Laila's teeth continued to grind in fury as Lucie moved her knight to c6. "Are you just going to let her capture all the way to a promotion!? The hell is wrong with you, Lucie!?" she fumed as Laia captured the pawn at e7 with her d-pawn.

Much to Laila's relief, Lucie captured the pawn at e7 with her bishop, but the damage had already been done. E3, knight f6, bishop b2, queen f5, knight f3, a king's side castle, and despite Lucie being down two pawns, everything looked fine, unless of course you could see the eval bar for the game.

The video then jumped to a later point in the game, annoying Iori as she now had to pull up the actual game log of the game on her WWCF card to get an idea of how things got to where they were.

"We were on move 8, this is now move 28. Ugh, let's see..."

Iori quickly flipped through all the moves that had taken place in that span of 20 moves. Knight e2, knight b4, e-knight d4, queen a5, a4, bishop d7, bishop e2, f-rook d8, bishop a3, h6, queen b1, a-rook b8, a king's side castle, knight c6, bishop captures e7, knight captures e7, c3, bishop e6, knight captures e6, f captures e6, queen b3, queen d5, bishop c4, d-rook c8, bishop e2, queen f5, queen b1, knight e4, knight d4, queen g6, bishop d3, knight captures d2, queen c2, and queen f6, those were all the moves the broadcast had skipped over.

"Didn't even bother doing the recap on-screen? The hell's wrong with the commentator?" Iori grumbled.

The video feed resumed with Laia capturing the knight ay d2 with her queen and Lucie moving her rook to c5.

"How soon do you think we'll get a resignation?" Danny asked as Laia moved her bishop to e4.

Laila responded with an angry scoff and nothing more.

"Uh, Laila?"

"Can we focus on other games? This isn't even important! These teams are irrelevant, nor is this game interesting. It's a sloppy mess of an insult to chess, so much so I think Lucie needs to quit chess after this!"

The video then skipped a few moves ahead to Lucie's resignation, prompting Iori to once again look up the moves manually. "Should have clicked on the link for the big ole broadcast, but digging through it on the go is a pain. Fucking Francie kidnapping me and ruining my day!"

It turned out the game hadn't lasted much longer after it skipped for the second time. Knight d5, knight b3, rook captures c3, queen captures d5, rook e8, queen captures b7, rook captures b3, and queen captures b7 was all it took before Lucie had enough. And with Laia's victory, team Ecuador completed a sweep, proving that it wasn't just Aya, but all of them that were team Czechoslovakia's kryptonite.

However, the story didn't end there. Lucie ended up seeing Laila's comments resulting in a feud between her and the Czechoslovakian team. The WWCF had even stepped in and stated disciplinary action would be dolled out to Laila, and while that normally would have made Iori giddy, her being spoiled on the result of the match thanks to getting kidnapped still angered her.

"I see that bitch and her pink-haired bitch, I'm gonna fuck them up so bad!" Iori thought as the elevator doors opened.
