Chapter 411:

Team Japan vs Team France, again

En Passant Grandmaster

At the playing hall, four men, along with a small green goblin, waited anxiously in the wings. These five were the members of New Zealand's men's team, Sour Monn, Nekolas Ælfwald, Gandulf Paso, Zollum Sneargle, and Sherwood Ælfdorf. Their mission, to try and take a member of the Japanese men's team hostage for the Fairy league.

"No getting past me!" Gandulf yelled as Ginji came strutting over.

"Iya, it's just me."

"Oh, just you? Since when did we become friends!? Do you have any idea how long we've been standing here waiting for one of you to finish!?" Sour Monn fumed.

"No, and I don't even know YOUR name. I guess we don't know each other after all."

"SOUR MONN! SOUR MONN THE PISSED OFF!"

"'Pissed off'? Don't you mean "Sour Monn the soiled"?"

"Don't crack bladder jokes around me! Everyone! Kidnap him!"

But before the New Zealanders could move an inch, Raymond appeared.

"Your gauntlet has long since been won by Maestro Himitsu. Thus, your game ends here."

"T- The maestro won!?"

"Correct, now I'd advise catching this next bus back. Though be warned, many teams complained about you harassing them as they were trying to leave, so expect an earful from your coach."

Everyone turned to scowl and Gandulf.

"What? I just shouted "No getting past me" whenever someone tried to slip past us."

As the New Zealanders began shuffling out, they were followed by Ginji and the one that had been his opponent in the round, Le Mime.

Le Mime's presence was so unnerving, even the goblin Zollum was terrified of him.

"We had such a nice little match, Mr. Mime. Or is it Ms. Mime today? I can never tell if you're the real deal or just a pretender," Ginji chuckled as he sat next to Le Mime on the bus.

Le Mime responded with a creepy smile and hand gestures imitating giggling breasts.

"No, that gives it away that you're a guy. But THE real deal, no clue. Guess that's your charm point though," Ginji snickered as he closed his eyes and began to reminisce about his match.

...

Going back in time to the start of round 7, Okisato scowled as he arrived at his board.

"Hon, hon, hon! It is ze tiger ogre. I have heard you are... how they say... shitty," a bald mustachioed man in a red beret and suit snickered.

This was France's infamous SPCM, Alouette Baguette. He was know for taunting people, which often led to him being cast as comedic villains in movies and shows, the most famous one being the Yowie Hunt series where he played a caricature of himself that could turn into a werewolf. His secret was that he actually was a werewolf, but considering the world was full of races like vampires, elves, goblins, and even yetis and sasquatches, him being a werewolf wasn't much of a big deal.

As for the others, Ginji was up against Le Mime while Zago was up against Frances infamous LVM, aka Lazare Valluy-Moutet, a French grandmaster dubbed "the king of draws". The big surprise was at board 1 though, where Maestro Alexandre had decided to face off against the masked man.

"And here I was hoping I'd get a shot at taking down a maestro I have yet to beat," Okisato sighed.

"You have not even beaten a single French SPCM, nor even earned ze right to challenge one of us. You get ahead of yourself, you wildebeest spawn," Alouette taunted.

France's remaining player, a green-haired man in a designer suit named, Arsène Farrukhi, had opted to sit out the round, as was Ryonosuke who's stomach had begun to ache once more.

"Age just won't let me enjoy myself," Ryonosuke frowned as he sat down in a nearby chair.

"Oh don't worry, we'll carry the torch just fine for you," Ginji snickered.

Okisato shot him a skeptic glare, however, today Ginji would play one of his strongest cards.

As soon as the round began, Le Mime started things out by moving his pawn to a4. Ginji seemed amused a the play as he struggled to contain his chuckles while he moved his pawn to d5. Then Le Mime moved his pawn to b4.

"Iya, he's really playing me good! Guess a good ole victory can help. But should I just gobble it all down? Nah, I wanna wait here with Oki-chwan, that way I can get in his good graces," Ginji thought as he leaned back in his chair.

Eventually, Ginji finally moved his bishop to f5, to which Le Mime responded to by moving his pawn to c4. Ginji captured said pawn with his d-pawn, but now it was Le Mime's turn to stall, doing so while miming out being trapped in a small box. When he eventually felt he had stalled long enough, he moved his pawn to d4.

"Now I can do the flashy en passant. How kind of you," Ginji thought as he performed en passant and captured the pawn at d4 with his c-pawn.

Le Mime didn't seem to mind and moved his pawn to e4, keeping in line with his set move pattern.

"I bet f4 is next. Such an intrepid performance," Ginji thought as he captured the pawn at e4 with his bishop.

Sure enough, f4 was Le Mime's next move, to which Ginji countered by moving his pawn to e6. Next came g4 from Le Mime, and a long break from Ginji who decided to let his time run all the way down to a minute before finally capturing the pawn at b4 with his bishop.

"Oh, that's a check, Mr. Mime. How do you respond?"

With a creepy smile and some sporadic hand gestures, Le Mime gave his answer; bishop d2.

"Iya, I really had to earn this one. Checkmate, Mr. Mime," Ginji snickered as he moved his queen to h4, winning the game.

History was made in this match, though not for the reasons one might think. For as it turned out, this match was not only the last one still ongoing in either section, but also the first time in the history of the Chess Olympics that the first game to finish of said match finished after all the other games had been decided.

Okisato scowled as he watched the score flip to 1-0 in team Japan's favor. "Ginji, you planned this all out again, and for nefarious reasons I assume. Ugh, if I had known the French would drag things out THIS long, I would have employed a more brutal strategy against them," he thought as he turned his focus back towards his game.
