Chapter 7:
The crimson planet
2017, October 8th.
Kyle was able to escape on time as the school grounds were swallowed by the pit. he has some minor wounds all over his body. then a young lady in a military outfit stands in front of him. she notices the tears coming from Kyle's eyes.
she asks multiple questions about the things that happened. he was unable to speak. he was too broken to say anything at all. the tears keep coming out. he was broken. he was greatly wounded deep inside.
"You don't understand my pain. my God died there. he was my God. and I was supposed to be his loyal servant to stands at his side. oh, the horrors of founding yourself naked. nude from beliefs or hopes. what mortal who has been a faithful follower of a Deity can stand firm in such a horrible situation." whispers Kyle feeling absolute horror.
some loud footsteps come from behind. Kyle turns around to see Outback coming their way. he has a serious face. he seems bothered by many things. there are hints of lack of sleep. the man completely ignores Kyle. he looks directly at the girl. he asks about the situation.
"We had confirmed that there is one of the nine gates down there. we suspect that there are some Sins level three and four hidden inside the pit. we aren't capable of confirming any other survivor aside from the boy standing there." said the girl.
"We need to go down there. take that fragile child somewhere else. I am not in the mood for some waterworks. I have better things to care about." said Outback loudly.
Outback asks loudly for some help. two people put a suitcase in front of him. Outback opens the suitcase in seconds. he pulls out a modified uniform that was fabricated with the most advanced technology. it is called a combat suit ZS. he takes his clothes off with no care in the world for what others may think of him. he then puts on the combat suit ZS.
Outback yields loudly. some teens approach him. they all are wearing the combat suit ZS. they follow Outback as they walk towards the edge of the pit. it is profoundly dark in there. the dense fog makes it harder to see. the only visible thing is the giant Jade Door.
the door has a simple design. there is nothing abnormal aside from its size. but even so, only looking directly at the door for more than one minute is enough to cause goosebumps. as you tremble in horror feeling like your soul is on the nude been observed by something sinister.
Outback smirks. he looks at the kids around of him. he asks if they have enough courage. he isn't allowing any cowards down there. this is an important mission that can't be taken lightly. the destiny of the world stands heavy at their shoulders. a single mistake can be fatal.
"Sir we are ready to follow to the end of the world. we choose this as our destiny. we aren't running away from our duty any time soon." said a boy in the background.
"Good. this will be your first mission. your goal is to make it out of there alive. simple, right? those who make it out alive and sane will be graduating." said Outback.
the kids follow Outback. he once was a simple scientist who knew too much. now he is a man who feels like losing his sanity. so much shit he has seen the past two decades. so many sacrifices just to get to this point. there is no way back. no stopping. only the future will ever tell if he was triumphant in the wake of his tale. or if he failed miserably.
once they had finally reached the surface of the pit. they walk carefully. Outback had previously warned them against the use of any form of light. they walk with careful steps. there are only two sources of light in there. one comes from the Jade Door. the other comes from the cold corpse of a young girl. she met a miserable end at a tender age.
"Remember boys and girls. we are here only to observe the lifeform inside the pit. we are to avoid risk and danger. just record everything you see. observe the Sins. don't make contact unless is absolutely necessary." said Outback loudly.
the world inside the pit was another. the air alone was toxic to humans. to be expose to that environment will be similar to getting exposed to high levels of radiation. they don't know everything about the sins. they had barely classified the sins based on danger. the most dangerous ones are either level Zero or One. the lesser dangerous ones go from number 2 all the way to number 7.
Outback's hands are shaking. he forms a fist with his left hand. he tries to control his emotions. for some time, he stands in there admiring the beauty of the Jade Door. it may be extremely dangerous to humanity. but it's beautiful in its simplicity.
the teens without any casualty go around recording audio and video. they use a special tool to make it possible for the cameras to record the Sins in the pitch-black darkness. most of the Sins in there are either sleeping or completely ignore the intruders.
Outback starts to tell the students to return to one by one. he felt like there was someone else hidden in the depth of the darkness. some vile eyes staring at them. some vicious evil entity who he has met before. but somehow, he doesn't put a face to the man who embraces the darkness of the pit. Outback feels a somewhat familiar sense of fear. there is terror making his body tremble as he tries to remember.
"This little fieldtrip ends now boys. time to go back. there will be another time in the future. I will let you know about the results tomorrow morning." said Outback pretending to be alright as he feels an evil entity breathing the same air as him.
it didn't take long for them to be done. they return to the surface. Outback refuses to speak to anyone for the moment. he doesn't even look back at the pit. as he was trying to move on with what was next on the agenda. a girl approaches him.
"Rebecca I am all ears. be quick and clear. I have some other things to do."
"The boy we found was identified as Angus Singh. he refused to tell as his name. we found his name thanks to some objects at his hand with his name written on them." said Rebecca.
"Thanks. I will deal with that issue later. I need to take a break now." said Outback.
Rebecca leaves.
Outback falls on his knees. there are so many things on his mind right now. he feels the need to have a companion to stand at his side. the journey of his choice to follow is a lonely one. there are so many companions that die. retire. or just leave for good. there is an immense loneliness suffocating him. he feels an absurd amount of self-hatred. he is so tire.
the world is no longer his ally. the loneliness as intoxicating as ever. the resentful embraced of the cold night is unpleasant. showered in the sky's tears. Outback stands in the middle of a heavy loud rain. he refuses to move. it is easier that way for his tears to get mixed up with the drops of water that fall from the sky.
others ignore Outback. they all go to their own tents. Outback whispers in the night. names come from his lips. names that he remembers with melancholy. he feels the abundance of pain scratching the soul mercilessly.
