11 - Rescue

DECADES PRIOR

At the midpoint of where the island is and at the dead of night, a younger Yu and his friend, revealing himself to be Katsura were exploring parts of the island as they believed an intruding Enigma was lurking within.

The two continued searching, flashlights in hand.

Yu asked, "Any luck?"

Katsura answered, "Nothing from end, you?"

Yu responded, "Same here... These things are a real pain in the neck!" As he said with extreme frustration.

"Stop moaning and look for it..." sternly said Katsura. "We- what was that?" Suddenly, Katsura some bushes rustling and went to check it out with his blade in hand.

Then, something aggresively jumped out and went in for the attack on Katsura.

Katsura managed to dodge on time and use his blade on what was revealed to be an Enigma that was using a rabbit as its host.

Yu immediately came to his friends aid as he stunned the Enigma to the ground with his lightning bolt.

He ran to Katsura and asked, "You okay?"

Katsura responded, "Yeah I'm good, can't say the same for our little friend here."

As he got up and walked up to the Enigma, Katsura used his blade to force the Enigma to release the rabbit but unfortunately doing so, costed the rabbit to grow substantially weak. Katsura then poured something onto the Enigma as it flailed and squealed before dying.

Yu picked up the rabbit and examined it, seeing that the rabbit didn't have much long as it had been drained of its energy by the Enigma.

Yu then looked at Katsura who looked back, seeing the sadness in Yu's eyes. He then handed the rabbit to Katsura and said to him, "You do it, I can't bear to do so myself."

Katsura was about to grab the rabbit when it unexpectedly lashed out on the two of them, causing Yu to drop it onto the grass.

They took a few steps back and watched as the rabbits body began mutilating disgustingly and lightly grew in size. Yu tried to use his lightning on the now mutilating rabbit but the rabbit, seeing this, dodged the attack and hastily ran off. 

Yu and Katsura immediately went after the rabbit.

The chased the rabbit as much as they could but the rabbit had grown faster in speed as it began to create a giant gap between it and the duo.

Both Yu and Katsura began to grow tired but they didn't give up as they continued chasing after it until the rabbit stopped in its tracks and turned to face the duo as it menacingly stared at them.

Yu and Katsura stopped in their tracks as well after seeing the infected rabbit had done the same.

The rabbits began to change again as it grew arms froms it back and there were tentacles coming out from its out that flailed gruesomely. Its eyes shifted from black to white with its paws growing claws that had its own blood coming out from it.

"Holy sh-" said Katsura, amazed and stunned by what he was witnessing.

After completing its transformation, the monster rabbit screeched with disturbing sounds coming from it. Yu immediately tried attacking the monster but it attacked and sent Yu flying up into the sky.

Katsura used his to blade to try and cut into the monster but it was unsuccessful as the fur that covered the monster was no longer fur but instead of a shell that disguised itself as a shell.

The monster immediately attacked as Katsura's guard was dropped and kicked him onto a tree.

Seeing Yu falling from the sky, it attempted to use its tentacles to grab but Yu retaliated with the use of his electric spear as he threw it directly into the monsters mouth.

The monster however was smart and instead use the tentacles to grab his spear and used it against him.

Yu merely missed as the spear almost ran through his face. Yu then used his electricity to escape from the monsters range of sight and hid.

Seeing that it had lost Yu, the monster attempted to destroy his spear though unsuccessful.

Taking the opportunity, Yu used the connected electricity in his spear to send out a barage of electrical shock waves, causing the monster to roar in pain.

It then kicked a whole in the ground and escape but Katsura, who had gotten back up, charged at the monster and attacked it with a mixture of wind and water drops, creating ice that froze the monster in place.

He shouted "Now Yu!"

Yu summoned his spear and lept up and ran the spear through the monster, causing it to shatter into pieces and die.

After the battle, Yu, not looking at Katsura, how did you do that?"

Katsura asked, "What do you mean?"

"What you did just now, how did you do that?!" Asked Yu, sounding upsetted. "How long did you have them for?"

Katsura then exclaimed, "What I-"

"How long?!" Said Yu, sounding angry.

Katsura remained silent. His attention was then shifted to the hole that the monster had made as there was a purple portal at the bottom. Yu also looked down and was shocked to see it.

FIVE YEARS LATER FROM THAT DAY

Yu and Katsura had returned back to that place with Luna and Naoya tagging along. Katsura appeared with numerous bags and such.

Yu asked, "Are you sure about this?"

Katsura responded, "Knowing what may be down there and the possible threat that it may cause... Someone has to do it."

Yu and Katsura at each other intensely before Yu turned his eyes away as he lightly mutters, "Good luck." Yu then walked away from the well while Katsura said his final goodbyes to Luna and Naoya.

"Good luck down there, old man." Said Naoya softly.

Katsura responded "Thanks Naoya... I'm sorry that it had to come to this but-"

"We understand..." said Luna, sounding a little hurt, "Just please don't do anything that'll get you killed."

Katsura burst into laughter and said, "Don't worry about me kiddo. Worry about your old man. He's going to miss me the most..." Katsura then took a deep sigh and said, "Its time..."

He hugged Naoya and Luna for final time before he jumped down and entered through the portal. As Katsura travelled down, he looked back up to see what little skies he could see until he passed through.

IN THE HUMAN WORLD - CONTINOUS

After Katsura departed, Yu created a spell that sealed the pathway from both sides. He looked down at the ground, already missing his best friend and ally.

Years later, a well was created to hide the location of the portal itself.
