ACT I: MOMENTS

Somewhere beyond the count of stars.
Beyond the folds of the cosmos.
Past the very boundaries themselves.

Something had gone wrong.

An error.
A life not meant to anchor itself to anything.

But it did.

It wasn’t supposed to happen, of course.
It was supposed to be simple. Observe the Variable.
Nothing should have gone wrong.

It happened at no particular time, nor for any discernible reason.

Yet it did.

The ancient and eternal protectors of the universe suddenly stirred awake.
Observers were dispatched. Directives were established.
They were bound by rules older than the galaxies.

“Do not interfere,” said a voice.
“Simply observe,” said another.

But as the anomaly grew, even the great protectors themselves began to wonder:
What would happen to the universe? And who had the final say?

It was something no one—not even the Observers—could have ever foreseen.
