Chapter 2:

The Enforcement Society

The chronicle of survival

I couldn't process my brain with the information. "3 years ago in 20XX , there was a devastating bio hazard that wiped off many lives from this planet. Numerous people were dead and even more victims. But that totally left humanity into a chaos. Widespread death and casualties resulted in dwindling economy, remaining people started dying due to lack of food, there was riots and war for provisions. But among them there was few excellent people who had the knowledge and ability to be able to restore the planet." He adjusted himself on the couch and straightened as he spoke "The Enforcement Society was built to protect the last remaining people. We rounded up the population who were not affected and sent them to Enforcement Camp set up in every region." He continued and l listened like a bewitched audience. Without doubt he was a little proud of the achievements." We rescued people from around the world and among them who were capable of building the planet again , we made a special team of them and named them Enforcer. People with all kind of skills - scientists, doctors, architects, authors and many people skilled in other fields were chosen. This Enforcement Society has only one aim to restore the planet back to the normal and Miss Rigg, you may not know but you were a scientist who was researching on this bio hazard." Everything l was hearing l felt like it was about someone else, no matter how much l tried l couldn't remember any of this." Was l successful?" I doubted whether l had done anything special. "Unfortunately you were infected but you were successful in finding a cure. The process is slow as you can see but it is effective. There are...." " Was there some problem in the cure that triggered my amnesia?" I cut him off. None of these were making sense. " Those who were cured before , did they all lose there memories?" I was desperate . Glenn's face hardened. Slightly lowering his head he began " To be honest you were the first person who was tested and was cured successfully ignoring the fact that you lost your memory ." He nodded in a silent agreement. " As for now we can only assume that the memory loss is just a coincident or there might be some other problems in the cure." He tone was serious. " For the time being we are deciding whether to make some improvisation in the cure but fear not since you are completely cured without any mortal damage we can say it is pretty safe than most of the cure we tried......." he trailed off." We may also need to observe you and conduct some tests to proceed further." He stated. I don't understand about the cure he is talking about , but l wanted to ask so many things and all my thoughts were in mess. " You said you were making teams of those who were 'capable' "  - l gave extra emphasis on the word " were made Enforcer but l am completely useless in this state . Then what's the reason for you to make me an Enforcer?" Glenn gave a small laugh." Well Miss Rigg, you may not remember anything now but this is not permanent. You are important both as a researcher and as a fellow human as well." His face softened as he said it." But can't you get the documents from my lab? It will be much easier than trying to make me remember everything. The thing is l am not yet convinced by their reasoning of making me an Enforcer. Glenn looked a little troubled. " We tried to but the documents are missing. We are under impression that someone may have stolen it or it maybe simply lost." " So you thought l might be some help? " " Exactly! And we think that this maybe even fast if we get back your memory somehow." As if it's a matter of fact. "Luckily" he continued " some of our researchers are currently working on it. They are preparing some amnesiac drug as you know people are traumatised and slowly losing their will to live. This way they are dying even fast. Making them forget may help them to forget this painful memories." I couldn't say anything . " They can help in diagnosis of the cause of your amnesia so l think that it's worth giving a shot." We both grew silent. They are trying so hard to make things normal. How bad is the thing outside? The sound of the door shutting brought me back to sense. I didn't even notice Evan going out but he came back from somewhere with few files. " This is your portfolio. It may give you some leads." Wow he is actually trying to make a conversation. I almost laughed when l learnt that graduated from top institution and university. All the information were neatly arranged but everything looked new to me. The achievements, awards, degrees, thesis papers everything. " Aesculapius Firm and Co.?" "During the time of the Hazard this company was the major phermaceauticle company which produced many medicines and advanced equipments . It has one of the best teams of researchers and one of them is you. And one of the huge invention was the cure that you found. You were the head researcher of that project but after you drifted in the  sudden comatose state that project was called a failure but that surely is not a case. " He paused . " Just to let you know huge money was spent on the project so after they thought it was failure it caused a huge commotion." I was speechless. Evan snickered while going through the files. I suddenly was annoyed with this guy. " Say can l visit the lab. Maybe it can help me remember something. " Evan paused and seemed to think about something to oppose that. " I think that's a good idea.  Let's go." Glenn nodded in agreement . Together the three of us went outside . The hall outside the room was bathed in sunlight. The echoes of our shoes on the marble floor resonated in the empty hall. Somehow it felt like some kind of warning. But l knew one thing that this is my time to face the reality.
