Chapter 5:

Sigh, here we are…

A Room With No Blood

039 walked through the door out of the library, she was pleasantly surprised to see the white room she vaguely remembered. It felt like an eternity had passed since last she stood in this room, and in a way it had been.

She walked to the center of the room where a center console was siting, walking over to it she saw it read the following:

"Instruct your player as told. Only read out the instructions given. Do not add any info to the instructions given. Do not tell them anything without first being instructed to. Do not say anything unless told to do so.” She clicked agree, and looked at the screen showing a chubby man standing in a white room.

The screen instructed her to tell him "We will be releasing hungry wild animals into the room, 1459, make your way to the center of the room. Once there a knife will be raised from the floor, use this to survive for 5 minutes."

She read it over then clicked the "talk" button.

"Hey 1459, please go to the center of the room. Once there a knife will come out of the floor." She said going slightly off script.

No alert appeared, so it was fine for now.

"What will this test be?" 1459 called out as she made his way to the center of his room.

He made it and as she had said a knife came from the floor. He picked it up, holding it in his right hand he called out again, "Hello? I need you to read your script 100% correctly you moron or I might mess up this game. Freaking woman I swear."

039 rolled her eyes, she didn't really mind the insult, but it did give her an idea.

She clicked the "talk" button again, putting on a nervous voice she said with a quiver in her tone, "Oh...I'm so sorry! I'm..this is... well it's my first time doing this.... Okay! Just read the script!"

1459 interrupted her, "Spit it out moron, if there's a time limit then we're already draining it. HURRY!"

"Right...right... Well okay, it says here that this test will be testing your endurance.... Please carefully make cuts on your forearms and across your thighs. To pass this test you must endure it without screaming for 5 minutes... That sounds scary... Can you do it?"

1459 scowled, "Maybe for someone as weak as a woman, but I can handle a little pain. I've been here long enough to not question the game, I'm confident my injuries will be healed right up after the game ends." Without much thought he slid the knife across his left arm. Blood poured out onto his shirt as he sat down and sliced his thighs. Then with his left arm shaking a bit he did his right arm. Blood was pouring out of him in four spots now, he'd die of blood loss if he didn't close them soon.

That was of course, if the wild starving animals that were about to be released didn't tear him apart first.

039 looked at her screen, still no warning. So was there really any punishment for her going off script? She was sure a warning would have come up, or someone would stop her from telling him to slice his arms and thighs, but nothing had happened.

She shrugged, guess this guys gonna die and the game doesn't even care. But had it ever cared? Seemed like people died pretty often, so maybe she should have tried something different? There really wasn't much she could do with this room, there was a knife, and there were wild animals coming, not many things to do with that.

She looked over the control console looking to see if she could find anything else interesting. If she could she'd have loved to turn the lights off for this poor guy. He's probably gonna feel sad when he sees all the wild animals coming and doesn't have the strength to fight anymore.

What about the whole "Your player wins, you win" system? Was she gonna die when this guy died?

Oh well, she thought to herself as she shrugged.

A long time ago she would have been scared, but she'd been through enough now that death might be her only way out. She turned the volume up on her control console, then walked over to the wall and laid down against it. Closing her eyes as she rested she listened to the sounds of horror coming from 1459 as he realized the animals were coming.

He shouted things at her but she wasn't really listening. The sounds of his screams didn't really faze her anymore, this was what "The Room With No Blood" wants isn't it?

They were given numbers so as to dehumanize them, then the game gives the Administrator free rein over the games they are watching over. The only things 039 could see happening were one of two things, either you did what the game told you to do, or you just made your own game and saw what happened. It was like playing god, but with less power.

Eventually the sounds of screams ended, followed shortly by the quieting of the snapping sounds of his bones being eaten by the animals. She got up and walked over to the control console. Looking at the camera feed the room was as good as empty minus blood stains across the floor, along with blood paw prints showing where the animals had walked as they went back out of the room. Still no message about her disobeying the game, guess her "gamble" paid off.

A door opened on the left side of her room, she looked down at the console again, nothing. Shrugging once again 039 went through the door, if there was a burning fire pit on the other side, oh well.

The other side of the door was not a burning hell, just another open white room. Too bad.

It had a center console again, soooooo exciting....

Was 039 ever gonna get to play a game again? She walked over to the console, it read the same as always, "Instruct your player as told. Only read out the instructions given. Do not add any info to the instructions given. Do not tell them anything without first being instructed to. Do not say anything unless told to do so.” Once again she clicked accept.

The camera feed showed a little boy, "that's new" she thought. It's not that she didn't think there were children here, but she just hasn't seen one in so long it was a bit surprising.

She looked down at the instructions she was to give him, " This is your players first game, tell your player (1701) they will be participating in a game called the Room Game. This game will be an easy starter for 1701's age group, to win he must simply guess a secret word. Give 1701 the hint: "I can fill a room, but I take up no space. What am I?" The door will open when 1701 guesses the correct answer : "Light" He has 10 minutes to do so."

She looked it over, so there are easier games for younger players? Neat. But that game doesn't sound so fun. 039 had her own idea.

She clicked the "Talk" button, "Hello 1701, my name is Zero. You might be confused about where you are and what's going on, that's why I'm here to explain it to you."

1701 was looking around his room trying to figure out where the voice was coming from. "Hello!" "Hello!" "Please help me! I'm scared." 1701 began tearing up.

A younger 039 would have stopped her plan seeing a crying child, but not anymore.

"I'm sorry 1701, but I am afraid you have died. This is purgatory and I must decide your fate here and now. If I deem you worthy I shall open a door and allow you to go towards Heaven, but if I find you have been a naughty child I shall open the floor up and let you drop down to hell. Understand?"

1701 looked white, he slowly nodded. His lips were quivering as he formed a sentence, "Wher...e...is my....m..oo...mmm....?"

"I'm afraid she might not be here. She could be in Heaven, but could also be in hell, you'd know better then me I guess. Not important though sport, what is important is you need to tell me about all the bad stuff you've done!"

1701 looked mortified. He slowly began listing things he felt were worthy of making him a "bad kid". It was all quite boring to 039, didn't say sorry, thought mean thoughts, took an extra juice box when his mom wasn't looking. And then he got quiet, like the next one was going to really sting...

"...I....killed her...."

039's ears perked up, no way this kid could have... She hit the "Talk" button, "Speak up 1701."

"I KILLED MOM!" He screamed, tears running down his cheeks.

Maybe 039 had taken this a bit too far....

"I.... didn't mean to.... " 1701 continued, still crying and shaking.

I'm an awful person aren't I? I'm the one who deserves to die in hell....

"It.... was an accident.... I swear!... I shouldn't have been playing in the road..... but... I never meant....for her to....d...ie...."

039 couldn't hear any more of this, "Hey kid what do you call the opposite of dark?"

1701 looked confused, shaking he said, "Light?"

The door to his room opened. 039 clapped her hands, "Way to go! Move on to the next room!" Before 1701 could fully enter the room she hit the "Talk" button again, "Your mom doesn't hate you... I'm sure...."

Before 1701 could respond the door closed.

A message popped up on the control console, "039, you have broken the rules.... You will not be moving on to the next room. You shall enter the elevator and receive "Special treatment"."

The usual door opened, beyond it sat a small white room smaller than the normal room, must be an elevator.

She climbed in, the door closed trapping her in.

She felt the floor shake, she could tell she was going up. Where she didn't know, but nothing bad ever is at the top of the tower. If the elevator had started taking her down she would have been worried, but up is always good.

Anything worked for her as long as it wasn't the Library......

She sat down on the floor, pulling her legs close to her chest.

"Why did I do that to that kid...." She said to herself.. That kid wasn't going to go through the door and see his mom, he was going to be made to play another game... How long till he finds out he isn't working towards heaven.

How long until he finds out he's trapped inside "The Room With No Blood" until it gets bored of him?

If 039 could cry maybe she would have. But she was too old to even remember how crying worked...

The elevator continued rising, bringing her closer to whatever her "Special Treatment" would be.
