Chapter 2:

One is COMPANY, Two is a CROWD

(: Short Stories :)

Nervously chewing away at my nails, I rocked back and forth. Anxiously looking at the clock, carefully listening to the ticks and tocks, watching the hands slowly work their way around.

I stole a glance at her and quickly looked away. My heart was racing; I could hear her breathing. I didn't want her to be here; I wanted her to go away.

"Why are you here?" I nervously asked. She chuckled and slowly walked in front of me, in front of the clock. Trying not to notice her (or look in her direction), I continued to chew away at my nails, literally.

I yelp out in pain as I look down at my fingers; my nails were no more. My breath hitched as my eyes wandered up to her glaring face. Her cold eyes found pleasure in my pain, her moist lips turned upwards, and the familiar expression told me everything that I needed to know; she wanted more.

She grabbed the tips of my fingers and 'lightly' pressed on them. I screamed and cried, trying to pull my fingers away, but she kept holding onto my fingertips.

"Lilith, let go!" I choked out; she continued to smile, pleased with my reaction and slowly let go. My heart was starting to pound even faster; my brain couldn't process the amount of pain that I was feeling. 'Why was she doing this? Why was my happiness and peace not enough for her?' I thought.

She then stood up and exited the room, leaving me relieved yet troubled until a sting sent me to the floor. It took me a while to realize that I'd been shot; two more bullets caused me to clench my hands and scream out in agony and cry even more.

My ears kept zoning in and out, my eyesight started to get blurry, and I could see my blood taint my hands, clothes and the floor. I try to keep my focus and concentrate on what she is saying, but I can only hear a few words.

Crouching down to my level, she giggles. My breathing starts to become heavy; my upper body starts to feel numb. As I take my final (painful) breath, she whispers, "You know what they say, one is company and two is a crowd..."
