Chapter 714: The Mysterious Ruler

Beyond The Stars

Chapter 714: The Mysterious Ruler

In an unknown location.

Rom walks through an outdoor heavenly area with Raylee flying at his side. Angel guards surround them, all of whom have a stern expression on their faces.

“Nice weather, wouldn’t you say?” Rom says, trying to lighten up the distrustful guards.

All of the guards remain silent as they guide him to a building.

“I don’t think they are open to small talk,” Raylee whispers.

“Strong silence it is then…” Rom mutters.

After walking a bit more, they reach the building. The lead male angel turns around in front of the door to face Rom, eyeing him with sharp eyes.

“You are about to meet our almighty ruler!” the angel states, his voice firm and absolute. “So, you better be respectful. Any disrespect means we will have to kill you.”

Raylee thinks to herself. “Pffff! As if any of you grunts could defeat Rom in battle!”

Rom smiles. “Of course. I will not disrespect your leader in any way.”

The lead angel turns back to face the door and opens it. They all walk in, the rear angel closing the door behind them.

Soon after, inside the throne room.

Still surrounded by angel guards, Rom and Raylee approach the center of the room. At the end of the room is a steep staircase that leads to the throne itself, where the ruler sits. His appearance is obscured as a silhouette, but a red glow comes from one eye.

The ruler sits back on his throne. “State your business. I have little patience for time wasting.”

Rom smirks. “I have an offer to make to you. I think you will find this offer quite intriguing.”

The ruler leans forward a bit. “Go on. I’m listening.”

“Let me begin,” Rom replies, still smirking.

Back to the Heat Endurance Trial in the Tower of Suns.

Still lying on the floor, Zaydra pants, “If only I could just… shield myself from the heat…”

Coming to a sudden realization, she opens her eyes wide. “That’s it!!”

Also lying on the floor, drenched in sweat, Maiyo lifts his head to look at Zaydra. “What’s it…? If you don’t mind me asking…”

Zaydra pushes herself off the floor, struggling the whole time. “I can shield myself…! Star Light Shield…!”

She activates Star Light Shield, covering her whole body in a transparent shield of starlight. With the shield active, she stops sweating as much as she was before.

“This is game-changing!” Zaydra shouts as she sits up. “I still feel the heat, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was before I activated my shield.”

Maiyo’s eyes tremble, even as he lies on the floor weak and drenched in sweat. “Truly… magnificent…!”

Zaydra scratches her cheek, averting her eyes with a slightly embarrassed and amused smile on her face. “Even for this, you had to use the word ‘magnificent’, huh?”

With renewed determination, Maiyo slowly pushes himself up to sit up. “If you can be… magnificent… then so can I…!”

A thick sheet of metal forms on every inch of Maiyo’s body. It quickly starts melting, however.

“I don’t think that is going to work,” Zaydra says.

“Nonsense!” Maiyo snaps, still determined.

Maiyo’s silver aura surrounds his body, and an even thicker layer of metal coats his body. He stands up, smiling. “Hmhmhm. Behold! I am magnificent once again!”

“How are you keeping the metal from melting?” Zaydra asks.

“Hmhmhm. It is simple. Truly simple. I am having my body consume constant small amounts of magic energy to reinforce the metal.” Maiyo replies.

“I’m not sure if that trade-off is worth it.”

“Hmhmhm. Perhaps. But it’s better than failing the trial.”

Three hours later.

Both Zaydra and Maiyo sit confidently on the benches with their arms crossed, both smirking. Zaydra also has her left leg crossed over her right one.

Suddenly, they hear a ding, the heat ending immediately after.

“Sounds like the trial is over,” Zaydra says.

“Indeed,” Maiyo replies.

Solen walks into the room, smiling. “Excellent work, both of you. I am pleased to say that you both have passed the second trial.”

“It was a difficult task that had an easy solution, at least for me.”

Solen raises his head as he laughs. “Hohoho! Is that so? Well, I think you will find the final trial much more difficult.”

“Whatever it is, we will meet it head-on,” Maiyo states with confidence.

“For now, I want you two to rest. You will need it for the final trial,” Solen says with certainty.

January 11th, Year 14,198. Just one day before the heroes arrived on their current planet. In a new room in the Tower of Suns.

Zaydra and Maiyo meet Solen in a large room with an arena in the center, large pillars stand in the outer parts of the room.

“For this trial, the task is simple,” Solen says. “All you have to do is… fight me.”

Zaydra smiles with confidence, her eyes focused on Solen with piercing sharpness. “That’s just the kind of trial I like.”

“Do we have to defeat you in the process?” Maiyo asks.

“No,” Solen affirms. “You just have to impress me. Whoever impresses me more will become my successor as the Deity of Suns.”

Zaydra bends her knees, and Maiyo holds out his right arm, both ready for battle.

“Let’s get it started,” Zaydra suggests, desire in her voice.

“I shall put on a magnificent show!” Maiyo boasts.

Zaydra and Maiyo begin their final trial! But who is the mysterious ruler that Rom is meeting?
