Chapter 3:

Quest 3: A Royal Visit?

Beta Test? We got more than we bargained for in our game’s beta test.

The party entered the grand audience hall, located at the center of the castle approaching the one that will have the final say on how we are to be treated while we’re in this situation. Passing through the grand doors the air takes on a thick oppressive weight, as they stand before the crown in such a way that we are unable to see anything but the crown being worn whereas they would be able to have a full view of those who do not belong in this world. Everything was set up in a way that made it seem like Lexa and the others had been judged before they'd even thought about walking in the direction we ended up walking in, no one dared speak until the body that was hidden from our sight spoke first but no voice came and the silence dragged on for what felt like hours in the unsettling environment and atmosphere that had been created for our arrival, eventually a sound broke the silence a calming voice echoed through the grand hall.

“Welcome, I have been informed by the city guard of your circumstances and that you are in fact travellers from another world. A world in which any commoner is able to create entire worlds within mere months. Tell me how it is possible to play God in your world without having the powers of a god? I am most intrigued by this, and please do not lie to me for lies are only used by the lowest people on the social ladder.”

Everyone looked at each other trying to figure out the best person to speak on the matter, and what to say to the disembodied crown. Ilev was the one who spoke in return.

“Well while one person can as you say play God without the powers of one, in our world the creation of new worlds is most often done by an entire team. As in fact this world was created by the combined efforts of the seven of us.”

Ilev’s words were meant as a prompt for everyone else speak in front of the crown and tell them who each individual was and the roles they fulfilled, being the one who happened to be standing next to Ilev, Lexa started off the explanations.

“Yeah, so I was a designer meaning my job was to lay the basic framework on how this world would look and the rules that govern it. As well as the stories that would take place within it.”
“I was the one who created all of the architecture you have in this city and throughout the rest of this world, every building you see was made with my hands.” Lekly continued.
“And I was behind all the tools you have.” Added Suieol.
“As for me, Arano, I was the one that sorted the main background systems that build the rules this world follows.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you I am Aromi, I also helped design this world alongside Lexa.”
“I am Ami, I helped Arano with the system that hold the rules to the world.”

Once everyone had all spoken Ilev spoke again.

“And I am the one that was in charge of the shape of the land and the natural features you rule over, as well as being in charge of the six who spoke before I did. We have a saying in our world it goes ‘there is no I in team’, and being God as you put it is more often than not a team project.”

As the last words were spoken, the distinct sound of clicking of heels could be heard from the platform that seemed to house the throne the wearer of the crown sat upon. Once the crown bearer had finished adjusting their position their voice echoed through the room once more.

“Well, it is certainly nice to put some names to the faces I see before me. If you work together as a collective to perform the duties of God, why may I ask, have you descended into the mortal realm?”
“Well that’s hard to answer as we aren’t entirely sure why we have appeared here. We also have no idea if we have any of our ‘godly’ powers, or for that matter any magic power that most citizens that live in this world possess because of the fact we are not of this world originally.”
“Well that will not do, as if you are our gods descended to perform your divine work we must have you knowing what you are capable of after all. I shall have a guard notify the adventurers guild of a newly arrived nomadic guild that have travelled here because of the talk about or appraisal systems being the best of all the lands, and so would like to undertake a private appraisal. And I have no doubt you will, exceed the abilities which a common man would have. Then I must ask you answer a request of the nation.”

As the disembodied voice spoke at us, the group found themselves exhanging glances with each other trying to ascertain the situation and if anyone had knowledge of these godly powers the voice was hoping almost pleading, they’d possess. The shared looks also contained our own hope that with the appraisal they might get a step closer to finding a way out of this reality and back to our own before everyone is killed by whatever might be outside these walls, or at the very least if it doesn’t it will give us access to information on how to survive outside the walls.

“Well, that is very kind of you. We will take you up on the appraisal offer of course.”
“Yeah, but what exactly is the nature of the request your nation has of us?”
“Why, of course you would not know you have been unable to oversee the world for a length of time so you would not know. Recently the forces of darkness have been encroaching further and further into my lands, before they never threatened the outer villages but in recent times worrying reports from local garrisons suggest that scouts of evil are starting to be found near the outer villages. And such the request is simple in words but difficult in reality as we wish for those who command creation in their true existence to dispel the forces of evil by eliminating their leader, whatever that might be.”

Upon hearing the request, the group all share nervous looks, and reality sets in even harder when a guardsman appears in the room and notifies the crown of something.

“My guard has informed me that the adventures Guild is ready to start the appraisals of the seven creators. If you would please follow the guardsman to the testing site, I bid you farewell for now our creators. May we meet again.”
