Chapter 2:

Into the New World

Relic Raiders

Kaito, now awoken in the new world he longed to experience, observes his surroundings. Vast prairies, lush greenery, and most notably, groups of monsters Kaito has yet to know about.

Without even realizing it, Kaito started to head in the direction of the monsters.

“No, wait!” Kaito told himself. “I need to find a guild first so that I can become an adventurer!”

Kaito headed to a high vantage point on top of a hill to see if he could find a landmark or any sort of civilization to start his adventure from. From the top of the hill, he could see a large town surrounded by a moat.

“Perfect,” Kaito said with content, as he ran towards the town. This town is where he would start his adventure and make his name go down in history!

Arriving at the bridge connecting the outside fields to town, Kaito stared in awe. “Sheesh, this place is way bigger up close.” Kaito then continued to cross the bridge, approaching the town gate on the other side of the bridge.

There were two guards positioned there in whom Kaito gave a friendly wave as he walked by. Though the guards were less friendly than Kaito, as he was approached and stopped at the gate.

“Hello, sir. Do you have some sort of business in Giora?”

Kaito nervously responds, “No… Do I need some sort of reason to enter town?”

Reassuring Kaito, the guard responds, “Oh, not to worry. I just suspected from your clothing that you may be of a higher class. It’s not every day someone of high peerage visits our town way out here, so I thought you may have a specific reason to visit.”

Kaito, fairly confused as he was just wearing his school uniform, realized that this world likely wasn’t as developed as his world. The clothes he was wearing would only be worn by families of high status.

“No, I’m just a traveler,” Kaito finally responds.

“Is that so? Then you’re free to enter town,” the guard concluded.

Kaito, entering town, thinks to himself that he needs to change his clothing as soon as possible. He did not want to be pinned as some noble, as following that lifestyle would limit his freedom.

For that, he needed money. Luckily for Kaito, he was already planning on becoming an adventurer, so doing even the simplest of missions should be enough to earn him some money.

In search of a guild building, Kaito started walking around. Asking some of the locals, he was able to find the Giora Guild Hall, the main guild in town.

Approaching the guild hall, Kaito was ready to enact his plan to gain himself the most interesting adventurer life. He’ll enter the building and find an adventurer who is not in a party, preferably a girl. Then he will get help from said adventurer to become one himself. From there, Kaito and the presumably female adventurer will start a party together, and hopefully, she’ll fall in love with him.

Entering the guild hall, he finds a bunch of people talking and having a great time. It was the atmosphere Kaito longed for, but he couldn’t let himself be drawn to the moment. He needed to find a girl who would be willing to teach him the ropes.

He started looking around for someone alone, but everyone seemed to be talking to someone. It was then he noticed someone. It was a girl sitting at a table all alone. Something about her seemed distant, but Kaito didn’t want to waste this opportunity, especially since she looked well-experienced in adventuring. Without a second thought, Kaito approached the girl and attempted to have a conversation.

“H-hey there,” Kaito unintentionally said nervously.

The girl, acknowledging Kaito’s presence, responded, “Hmm? I haven’t seen you around these parts; you must be new here.”

The girl’s monotone voice made her sound very unimpressed with Kaito, but as she took the time to talk to Kaito, he continued to try and befriend her.

“Yeah, I am new to town, which is why I was wondering if you could teach me the basics of being an adventurer.”

“You want me to teach you how to be an adventurer?” The girl questions Kaito.

The situation already seemed completely out of hand to Kaito. The girl was giving off the vibe of “I’m out of your league”. Just as Kaito was about to dismiss himself from the girl’s presence, the girl responded.

“Sure.”

Kaito was very giddy at this moment, but tried his best to keep his composure. “So, where do we start?”

Getting up from the table she was sitting at, the girl responds, “Follow me.”

The two of them started walking up to the front desk, where one of the guild hall’s staff was standing. “I’m Kaito, by the way,” Kaito says, introducing himself. “And thanks for being willing to help me out.”

“No worries, I’m Rina,” she responds. “I always try to help out the new adventurers when I can.”

By the time the two were done introducing themselves, they arrived at the front desk where a lady was standing.

“Hello there, welcome to the Giora Guild Hall. My name is Elise, and how can I help you two?” the lady greets them.

“Hey Elise,” Rina greets her back quite familiarly. “Kaito here wants to become an official adventurer.”

“Sure thing!” Elise responds. “Would you like an explanation on how things work as an adventurer, or would you like to skip right to the tests?”

Kaito sheepishly replies, “I’d like a full explanation if it’s not too much to ask.”

“Not at all!” Elise reassures Kaito as she pulls out a sheet of paper resembling a pamphlet for the adventurer job.

As Kaito observed the paper, he realized that he did not recognize any of the text on the paper, but he was still somehow able to understand what it was saying. Kaito, chalking his understanding of the text to lucky reincarnation benefits, didn’t dwell on it too much and let Elise start her explanation.

Elise started her explanation by saying the four most notable things when becoming an adventurer are stats, classes, levels, and skills:

Stats are predetermined even before someone becomes an official adventurer. They are born with a certain set of base points, and they cannot be changed even throughout training. These stats are not numerical and are instead an average representation of someone’s skills in certain areas. Six main stats are looked at when becoming an adventurer, which are power, magic, speed, defense, magic resistance, and dexterity.

A class is the main thing that is obtained when someone becomes an official adventurer. Upon registering at a guild, a class will be picked, and it cannot be changed via normal means. Certain classes cannot be obtained via the guild. These classes are mainly locked behind certain races, such as beastfolk or elves, and can only be obtained by humans via getting cursed. What class someone is recommended to pick is dependent on their top two stats. For example, someone with high power and magic resistance is most suited to become the monk class, and someone with high speed and magic will be more suited to become the ninja class.

For levels, every new adventurer starts at level one when they pick their class at a registered guild. Depending on their class, certain stats will increase when they level up. Levels can only be checked and updated at a registered guild or church.

Skills are more lenient in that each class can learn most skills. Though certain skills are easier, more difficult, or sometimes outright impossible to learn, depending on the class. Something to keep in mind is that even if someone does gain a rare skill for their class, it may still be an underwhelming skill for them, due to their stats.

Elise concluded her explanation, mentioning that, excluding a few magical items, only guild buildings and official churches have the ability to check someone’s stats, classes, levels, and skills.

“Any questions?” Elise says with a professional smile.

“N-nope, I’m all ready for that test!” Kaito says as confidently as he can to look good in front of the two ladies.

Elise, eluding the direction she is going to head towards, replies, “Great! Then please follow me so we can gauge your base stats!”

Elise and Kaito head towards a back room alone, where Kaito was set to stand in the middle of a magic circle.

“Perfect, just continue to stand right there while I measure your base stats,” Elise instructs Kaito. The magic circle underneath Kaito started to glow as Elise was given the results of Kaito’s base stats. Elise announces, “Kaito, you have a high speed stat followed by dexterity. This would make you most suitable for the thief class.”

Kaito liked the sound of that. A thief who does whatever they want. The class didn’t sound too weak, and would probably get a bunch of skills which would make things more interesting! Kaito also wasn’t fond of picking a non-recommended class as it might make him too average and thus unable to do fun things.

“I’ll take it!” Exclaimed Kaito.

“Great!" Elise said as she confirmed Kaito's class with the magic circle. "Now all that’s left is to create your adventure card,” concluded Elise. “I’ll have it ready shortly, so please wait at the front desk.”

Returning to the front area, Rina approached Kaito. “So what class did you end up picking?” She asked. “I’m of the swordfighter class if you wanted to know.”

“I picked the thief class!” Kaito replied excitedly.

“Interesting,” Rina said analytically. “That’s one of the more difficult classes to fight against. Hopefully, you can utilize it well.”

“Heh, I’ll do my best!” Kaito said confidently. “So where are we going to go first?”

“A nearby ruin,” Rina answers. “But first, we've got to get you some more suitable gear.”
