Chapter 4:

Learning to develop

Archive 1 - Once again, I am dead

I found another village and I got to know the name of it the moment I entered the village, but at that moment, it seemed to be decently sized town. It was called Kikara Town. Kikara seemed to be a peaceful place where the people enjoyed their stay and seemed to have work like normal people and earn money. I realized that I didn’t have any money to buy food, so I decided to check my bag, I found some herbs and flowers.

So, I decided to visit herbal and florist stores to sell the flower and herbs so I can get some cash along the way. I sold half of my herbs and all my flowers and I gotten about 30 Loct. The mask then said “Loct is the currency used in this country, you can get a decent meal for breakfast, lunch and even dinner at about 3 Loct.”.

“How about a stay at an inn?’ I asked.

The mask answered with “About 5 to 7 Loct per night, well it entirely depends on which in you are staying at.”

“Understood” I replied. I decided to go to a store nearby to buy some lunch, I took the menu and read it. This is where another issue is, I don’t know how to read this language. The mask then said, “Would you like me to turn on language translator and identification?”

I replied in surprise, “Oh, oh sure, I didn’t know you had that, Arthur.”

“Well, my family did have this mask for several generations, so I would know if it had it, the language is also known as Joart.” The mask replied.

The mask continued “You can read now, I turned on the language translator.” I replied with a thanks and read the menu. The menu is...interesting. It had dishes like “Roasted duck with slime condensate”, I was interested in what slime condensate tasted like, but I didn’t want to get my stomach upset…wait, I am dead. Why do I need food? I asked myself. I still decided to get a drink anyway. I ordered a Blazing Powder mixed with Corea Berry, whatever that meant.

I tasted it, well, it tasted like nothing, for me at least, I spent 0.78 Loct on something even though I know I can’t taste anything. Well, I did fully drink it, I guess there’s no going back. I went out and asked the people living in Kikara about where the closest good blacksmith is. I soon went to the closest blacksmith that was recommended. A guy who seemed as if he started to forge weapons since he was the age of 3 was there, I asked him, “Are you the one who runs this place?”.

He answers with a polite and nice tone “Yessir, would you like to buy any weapons? The strongest weapons are sold at the price of 60 Loct” My mind was surprised on how expensive it was, I asked him what material a 60 Loct weapon is made of that makes it so expensive. He replied that it was made from an extremely rare metal that can only be found in the depths of the ocean. He also said that it was very sturdy, so shaping and forging it into a weapon was extremely difficult, he also added that it was also a made-to order since it was also hard to make.

I wasn’t really surprised. I then asked him if there is any change of outfit here, since I still had the outfit that Arthur gave me back in Moze’t, well, I think. He then replied, “Well of course, we have anything that can help you begin your adventure” I got a change of outfit, it wasn’t heavy armor, it wasn’t chainmail. It was a light cloth made of comfortable material which I forgot what it was made of.

The owner also gave me a free jacket since he it was like a gift for a newcomer. He gave me that jacket and said it was on the house, the reason he gave me the jacket also was because it can get very cold around here, and there is also a dungeon in the mountain filled with creatures that has cold magic of Level 2 and with only some at level 1.

I went out and decided to collect more herbs and flowers to sell so I can gain more Loct. I also wanted to travel to the mountain with a dungeon that the blacksmith talked about, and also it seemed that the blacksmith’s name is Warber, from the tag on his shirt. I collected a lot of herbs and flowers but then a thought came to my mind. What happens if I take healing salves? Will I heal up or will I take damage, since I am dead? I decided to test what I said. However, I wasn’t up for buying salves since they are expensive, about 5 Loct for each.

I tried going to the herb specialist that I sell the herbs to and ask him if he could teach me how to make healing salve or at least some sort of healing potion. He immediately said yes to my request, which was surprising since I thought there would be a price to everything. He said he would teach me since nobody ever asked before, that was also why he had been surprised. Soon after I learned how to make salves and thanked the herb specialist.

I tried to make myself feel some sort of pain to see what normal pain will feel like. I then remember that if my magic manifestations get hurt, I myself will get hurt. I tried to hit my shadow against a stone by punching the stone with brute force. I accidentally broke the giant stone. So, I decided to find a sharp branch and stab my Shadow manifestation with it. Surprisingly, it did hurt me, but it wasn’t normal pain I can tell, it was like a little sting. But I guessed that was enough to know what pain felt like.

I went and stayed at an in for 5 Loct for 1 night. I drank the healing salve, and immediately I felt a huge mother of a headache and I must have passed out since I woke up and it was morning. I guess I can’t take any healing salve, since it seemed to damage me, well not physically but it gives me such a painful headache.
