Chapter 5:
Beta Test? We got more than we bargained for in our game’s beta test.
With nowhere to go, and no place to stay they all start walking with nowhere in particular in mind just away from the now closed gate of a place they once thought they’d be able to take respite in. The group walks in silence everyone still in shock over how the events of the past day had gone down they’d all thought that they’d be, at the very least able to stay, if not accepted by those living in Ehccihster. But now they find themselves back out on the open plains and that low rumble once more became the backing track to the aimless walk. To make matters worse the sun had started to set over the plains, and none in the group had any weapons to defend themselves from any monsters that might end up trying to attack, but worse than that they no longer had any shelter or bedding. So, the only option was to keep moving through the sunset and the night as stopping now would be likely be a death sentence. As the remaining light of the day slowly faded, Lexa looks at the faces of her companions and each one looks tired, however each also has a small glimmer of determination within their expressions. So determined to find a new town or forge their own path through this land and defy the crown of Ehccihster that kicked them out, having walked to a massive mountain one which would have to be climbed in the dark as the last remaining slivers of light were fading as they set foot at the base of the mountain. With one last look at each other before the daylight vanished a consensus was reached with simple determined looks, and as the darkness set in the climb of the mountain began. The base of this mountain felt like more of a simple hike up a moderately sized hill, easy enough to do in the day time but in complete darkness what is a fairly easy path to walk becomes much more treacherous to complete while the slope was still gentle, the width of the path was a complete unknown in the darkness meaning it was walked in a single file line with only small steps being taken after making sure that the next step that was about be taken was onto ground that wouldn’t give out beneath them. After many hours of climbing in the dark with the slope becoming steeper and the temperature dropping the first rays of the first dawn in a new reality illuminated the progress so far and how much further they still had to go to cross this mountain, however what the light did show is that they weren’t lost as with no destination in mind they couldn’t be lost as ‘being lost’ implies that they’ve gone somewhere they shouldn’t have and can’t remember how to get back to where they should be and having nowhere to return to nor having anywhere concrete to go to makes being lost something impossible for the group. After a few more hours of climbing when the sun was now fully at the backs of the party, they reach the peak of the mountain a flat wide plateau. But at the far side guarding the route the party want to descend by is what was feared the most, what sat in the way was the bull monster that we should have encountered right when we entered this world, but managed to escape then. This time it has cornered the defenceless party upon this mountain top, once it recognised there were more lives present it slowly rose up until it towered over everyone. Even unarmed it would be a struggle to escape without someone getting hurt but to the horror of the whole group, from the ground nearby it drew a katana and started its lumbering approach. Panic and fear over the sight that is before the fledgling party roots each of them to the spot, none can move as the monster gets closer and closer, raising the sword high ready to slash through the lined up party, all the fear in that moment shifts from the fear of the creature and to the fear of death and that fear brings with it a hefty dose of adrenaline which finally lets everyone scatter out of the path of the sword. That is all but one though, abject horror stretched across six faces as we saw the blade of the beast slice through Suieol. Being the fastest, and after Suieol was flung off the blade, the closest to him Lexa ran over and slung her over her own shoulder and took off down the mountain in whatever direction she was facing, path or safe decent route be damned. The loose gravel underfoot made the decent difficult for Lexa, and instead of running down she was more sliding down the mountainside. When she was eventually able to gain a more stable footing and able to run, she took that opportunity and ran as fast as she possibly could down the mountain and towards a forest that was at the base of this part of the mountain. Lexa only stopped running and took note of her surroundings and distinct lack of other people when she was already deep inside the forest hopefully far from the ire and gaze of the monster on the mountain top.
“Now what? I guess I just have to wait here until the others arrive. I mean were even is here, and will they go the same route as I did? Well not a lot I can do but wait for them, in the meantime how do I stop the bleeding?”
Lexa mutters aloud, before removing the jacket given to her back in Ehccihster before the meeting with the crown and start to wrap it around the exposed wound trying to limit the amount of blood that is escaping through the gash left by the sword. As Lexa performs the crude first aid, she senses a presence coming up behind her, thinking that her friends have caught up she gives them an update on Suieol.
“I’ve tried to stop the bleeding as much as possible, but we need to get her to this worlds equivalent to a hospital as soon as we can. I don’t suppose anyone of you knows which way the exit to this forest is, or where the nearest medical institution might be?”
“I feel you’ve mistaken me for a group that I am not, I do not know of you or of your injured companion or even of these other people that you seem to think that I am.”
Lexa turns around at the unfamiliar voice and immediately recognises that this isn’t anyone from the studio, but instead a human with owl-like features is standing there with a confused look on their face.
“Who are you?”
