Chapter 6:

Quest 6: New Encounters?

Beta Test? We got more than we bargained for in our game’s beta test.

“I am Eule, and I am a half owlin. Which are a fae race if you did not already know that. Your friend there is she ok? And where are the other people that you thought you were speaking to?”
“Ah, well I don’t know where they are. We got separated on the mountain top after this massive bull creature attacked us, which is how my friend here got injured. I was rather hoping they followed me down the mountainside and into this forest, you wouldn’t happen to know your way around this forest, would you?”
“Why of course I know my way around the forest I do live within it after all. WAIT! You fought the Burasu with no weapons and survived, how?”
“Ummmm, well we didn’t really fight it, per say just kinda stood in fear of it until the fear of death made most of us move fast enough to avoid it. Then I just picked up Suieol and bolted down the mountain as fast as I could.”
“First I have ever heard of anyone being able to live through an encounter with that thing. Back on topic though, I do not know where your other friends may be or where they may end up if they survived the encounter and were able to make it down the mountain safely. However, for a price I can lead you to them when they enter the forest.”
“Well you are a half fae, what would your price be?”
“Hey, it’s a normal human thing to ask to be paid for the service they provide, do not make this about my half lineage. Anyway I assume you have no money or any valuables which is why you asked about a price, so I’ll help you for the low cost of dealing with a teensy tiny problem.”
“I don’t like the sound of that too much, the last time I was asked to solve a problem I was kicked out of a city.”
“I do not know how to respond to that. Well, this time that should not happen, hopefully.”
“You don’t sound super confident there Eule.”
“How should I know whether or not the rest of the Owlin will be as accepting as I am? Especially with what I assume to be a large group of people. If it was just the pair of you then it would probably be fine…”
“If I stay here then they should find me eventually, and it’s probably not the best idea for me to be moving her around if I can help it. So, I think I’ll just take a short rest here, haven’t been able to have a proper rest for a long while.”
“EH? You’re just gonna refuse my help, that easy too?”
“Yeah, I’m not in the most trusting mood right now. And you being a half-fae means in the back of my head I can’t help but think that you’re plotting something larger than my abilities so you can steal my soul or something.”
“Well you certainly are something. I am going back to my village to warn them of some humans wandering around, if you stumble across it I bet the inhabitants would be more than happy to help you all out.”
“We shall keep our eyes out, as Suieol still needs healing so maybe you’ll get you deal after all, just after the rest of us have had a say in the decision.”

Eule flies off in an unseen direction, as Lexa lays on the ground next to the injured Suieol to take a short rest.

“Hey, sleepy. Get up sleeping beauty, I’m not kissing you to wake you up.”

Lexa opens her eyes to Aromi standing over her and Ilev having already put Suieol over his shoulder.

“You’re up, get your shoes back on, we’re moving. I hope you’ve got a good reason to have been sleeping in the middle of the forest while your gravely injured friend lays beside you.”
Lexa hurriedly gathers the tattered mess that should be her shoes from where they ley on the forest floor after having presumably coming off in her sleep and puts them back on, standing up once done.
“I do in fact, apparently not too far away is a Owlin village that we should be welcome in, they might be able to heal Suieol if we get them some form of payment or other way to fulfil the price they’d put in front of us.”
“Do you know what this demand might be?”
“No but I have a feeling after talking to a half-owlin before you got here that it’s gonna have something to do with defeating or driving away a monster of some kind.”
“Great, where have we heard that before?”
“That’s what I told them, before taking my rest on the forest floor. You know how tired I was after not sleeping all night, then being scared for my life and then sprinting down the mountain to make sure Suieol couldn’t get more hurt than she already is?”
“Now, now, Lexa, Aromi. We’re all back together and alive, for now, so why don’t we seek out this Owlin village as right now it’s our best bet for getting someone to heal Suieol and potentially give us more information about the going’s on in this world.”

With Ilev’s words the group started moving in once more in a completely random direction, hoping against hope that they once again picked the lucky direction and were heading towards the village instead of away from it. Walking through the forest the group could not tell if they were going forward or in circles as everything looked the same as it tends to in a forest, but normally there would be a landmark or two along the way but here there was none.

“I hope we went the right way. Should I call out to the Owlin that I talked to earlier, she didn’t seem to be the brightest.”
“Sure, go for it, Lexa.”
“Hey Eule, where are you and the village?”

Seconds later a half owlin female swoops down from the trees.

“You called friend, wait, I should not have answered. Could you all forget you saw me?”
“Sorry I think Lexa said your name was Eule, but that we cannot do. Would you mind taking us to your village?”
“I guess, and because it was my mistake that I am here I will not ask for payment. Please follow me.”

Arano turns to Lexa and whispers.
“You were right about her being a bit of an airhead.”

Eule turns to face the pair and just tilts her head in confusion, but soon turns back and continues leading the group. Only a short while later they were at the entrance to the village.

“Welcome to Daphne. I will fetch the village cleric if you just wait inside that building there.”

Eule says while pointing to a nearby house, the group enter the building and sit in the available spaces some drifting off to sleep while others stayed on alert the entire time. A short time later Eule returned with the cleric.
