Chapter 2:
The Revelation of Utopia
It has been two days since we were introduced to our new livelihoods in an alien world. This is still quite a big shock to me; we're expected to fight and put our lives on the line for a country we've never even heard of. I understand there will be a big reward in the end, but it's still like we didn't have much choice in the matter. Who knows what they would have done to us if we did refuse their offer. Nevertheless, this is the standard of life I will have to start getting used to. Although, I am still torn between keeping a nice easy life here and returning home to my family. I hope they aren't worried about me.
As it was the morning, I got out of bed and opened my door to leave the room. As I pulled the door towards me, I noticed Ela was standing right in front of me.
"Morning, can I help you?" I asked politely.
"Today is your third day in Medrea. Now that you have had time to settle in, you are to be in the training yard in the next thirty minutes" Ela replied stoically, "and one more thing. There will be a public ceremony later in the afternoon to celebrate the arrival of the new Heroes, followed by a banquet and a party. Attendance is mandatory to all events listed."
After that, Ela left before I could ask any more questions. I guess I have no say in a lot of things after all. The training should be useful at the very least. I will use this time to hone my skills and abilities so we can get the Revelation over and done with as soon as it starts.
The time that I was given for the training has arrived. I stepped out into the training yard with Sora and the others already waiting for me. Alongside them were four maids, one of them being Ela.
"Sorry to keep you waiting" I called out apologetically, even though I was here on time.
"Took you long enough, but now we can start!" exclaimed Sora loudly. He was clearly raring to go for this new challenge that lies ahead of him. You could even say this was an experience out of this world.
"Firstly, we must figure out what type of magic you all align with." one of the maids announced, "As your probably have figured out by now, each one of you has been assigned a personal maid. We are also skilled in combat so we can also train you up to learn how to use your magic effectively."
At this point, I was wondering what type of magic I would have been blessed with. The coolest by far is definitely Gravity, but I would not be opposed to Spatial either. I think I could pull off some cool, flashy moves with those types.
"Please talk to your respective maid to find out your magic type" a different maid added on.
I am assuming my personal maid is Ela, as that is the only one I have met so far. After concluding this, I walked up to her. She was holding a small, colourless crystal ball out in front of her, with her hands covered by gloves.
"Please place your palm on top of the crystal sphere. It will permanently change colour based on the magic type you wield." Ela explained to me.
Prior to this training session, I did read a scripture, which showcased all the different colours the magical ball can turn:
- Orange = Fire
- Dark Blue = Water
- Green = Wind
- Brown = Earth
- Yellow = Light
- Black = Dark
- Purple = Gravity
- Dark Turquoise = Shadow
- White = Spatial
- Light Blue = Cryo
After recapping the different types and their matching colours in my head, I nervously placed my bare palm on top of the magical-reading device. The ball started going cloudy, and then it turned into a dark red colour.
"Red? That wasn't on the scripture... Don't tell me-" I questioned whilst looking up to Ela, whose eyes widened in shock at the colour of the ball.
"Do not tell anyone about this, Chihara Yoru" Ela demanded, "I am now going to drop the crystal sphere, and you are going to tell everyone it was a mistake, but before it dropped, it showed light blue. Do you understand?"
"Yes. Yes I do" I replied, a little shaky from the news that just presented itself in front of my very eyes. If the colour red was not on the scripture, then that must mean the final, unmentioned magic. The one considered forbidden in this land... Blood.
SMASH! The crystal ball dropped the floor and broke into tiny pieces. Before it caught the attention of the others, the ball turned colourless again.
"Is everything okay?" Morimasa asked in a worry.
"Don't worry, I accidentally knocked Ela, causing her to drop the crystal sphere. My apologies if I scared any of you." I answered, trying to clear any suspicion of the shocking curveball just thrown at me.
"No worries, as long as everything is okay." Sora responded.
Following that almost very catastrophic event, we were given weapons to suit our fighting style and magic types. Sakaguchi Ryoichi was given gauntlets with Gravity magic, Nakajima Morimasa was given a quarterstaff with Shadow magic, Morishita Sora was given a longbow with Spatial magic, and finally, I was given a Katana with Blood magic, although I have told everyone else I was blessed with Cryo magic.
We finished our first training session and attended the public ceremony that was hosted in the town outside the palace we were residing in. Luckily for me, we were only practicing how to use our weapons without magic today and were not required to showcase our magic off in front of the public eye. I wonder how long I will be able to keep up this façade though. Anyhow, it's something I will have to think of later, as now there are a lot of people gathered in the palace's main hall for the ongoing banquet. Although, now that I mention it, how did Ela know Cryo magic would be the odd magic out without knowing the results of the other magic type reveals?
"Hey, Yoru! How are you doing?" Sora called out to me, checking in on me after quite a long day for all of us.
"Tired, but it's a nice change of pace compared to regular, old school" I replied in a positive manner, "actually, there is one thing that confuses me a little."
"Oh, something that confuses you of all people? What may that be?" Sora enquired, clearly amused by the fact I didn't understand something.
"If someone's standing in this world is decided on the beauty of their magic, alongside its potency and the user's capabilities with it, how come strong magics like Dark and Shadow are still held in very high regard, despite the gloomy appearance they would have?" I asked whilst in deep thought.
"Very interesting question there, Yoru. I think maybe the gloominess is like a balance to the other beautiful, more vibrant magics that exist like Light and Spatial. As it's not completely horrifying like Blood, maybe it's seen as like a beautiful evil." Sora theorised.
"A beautiful evil?" I questioned.
"Think about it, you can get very cute blonde girls and super hot goth women!" Sora explained metaphorically. After hearing this, I slowly turned my head and looked at him in disbelief.
"That is the analogy you came up?" I rebuked.
"Whattt? Goth girls are smoking hot." he doubled down on his statement. As much as I was disappointed by the analogy given, I couldn't disagree with the man, so I laughed and looked forward.
"Let's get through this together, Sora" I declared, "We will finish this and continue with our lives together, right?"
"Of course, man. Let's beat this Revelation together!" he added.
After exchanging our promises to both get through this together, we laughed and ate the extremely expensive-looking food surrounding us.
"It would be nice if life could stay like this forever" I murmured to myself, enjoying the present moment I was living in.
It was then at that moment, the lights flickered and bells started ringing. Everyone stood still and looked around in confusion. As people were trying to figure out what was going on, there was a massive crash sound as something fell through the roof straight into the middle of the room onto the floor. Everyone in the room was left gobsmacked. The double doors at the entrance of the room slammed open. At the door, there was a small figure, resembling a little boy, cloaked in a dark blue robe. In the middle of the room, a taller figure, this one of a more mature and female stature, covered by the same robe. The boy wasn't holding any sort of weapon, whereas the woman was holding a Lance in her right arm.
"It is time" said the boy in a psychotically, jolly tone.
"For the execution of the four heroes" the woman finished the boys sentence in a more serious tone.
We were confused and scared, but we knew what me must do. We may not have our weapons or fighting gear, but we had to stand up to the threat in front of us right now. We may be the clear targets, but they may also harm the innocent civilians around us. Neither the Chancellor nor Vice-Chancellor were currently present, so all four of us readied up, and prepared to fight our first battle...
