Chapter 27

Me-la-ni

We travelled, and I urged us forward, hoping we would land close to Bo-lo-to. When I felt the solid ground underneath my feet, I opened my eyes and looked around. We were standing in a dark alley.

“Where have you taken us!?”

“Somewhere safe.”

Si-ri glanced around, took a step to peer down the alley, and then returned to me.

“It’s the closest we can get without getting trapped in his weave.”

“What has he done?”

She sighed and stared at the ground.

“He’s found a way to fuse the weave. It is nothing like we ever saw in the last war.”

I stared at her, waiting for her to continue.

“So what do we do?”, I said when she stayed quiet.

“I… don’t know.”

“You don’t know!?”

“I thought we would have more time to prepare, but he decided to make his move.”

I kicked a stone.

“We can’t leave them!”

“I know…”, she whispered.
