Chapter 1:

Question?

CyberRock!!!

That thing is only closer, and it's making me wish I had installed a wing suit in this thing as well, but at this point, there is nothing I can do. As the thing gets closer, I'm able to tell that it isn't alive; it looks like it's fully metal, and I can see the rough curves on the silver, thin, humanoid figure approaching me using what I can only assume is something akin to a jetpack on its back.

When it finally gets closer to me, I just shut my eyes, expecting the worst. Then I heard something; despite it no longer being inside my head, I still hear the same mechanical voice that I heard not 5 minutes ago.

"You?" is the sound that I hear. Still having my fist clenched and eyes still closed, I feel something metallic on the left and right outer areas of my arms, like fingers but not quite there. Holding tight enough that I'm no longer falling, but just enough so I'm not feeling any pain.

It was breathing, it's rough, but it is breathing, and hearing this makes my heart feel like it's going to explode. It's like I'm going to get devoured by the monster, but...my eyes aren't open yet.

I try to calm my breathing, but it doesn’t work, and with one last breath, I finally open my eyes to what I can only describe as a monstrosity.

I was about a quarter right; it was a monster, but it had the face of a human. A body far too rough to be described has a humanoid that has edges in the shape of diamonds all around, except for their palms, since I would've been pierced by now if that were the case, and the face portion, which has the face of a blue-eyed woman. The edges of the "face" are almost like they were nailed onto the Spherical head.

"What? What? What's?" My entire body tenses up. I try to wiggle free, but I can't even budge away from the monster. "AAAAARRRRRHHHHH," my scream rips through the air around us; the machine only reacts by saying a single sentence:

"Hello? Who am I speaking to? Instead of being greeted by a mechanical voice, I hear a masculine voice coming from the thing's unmoving mouth, then, it's- his- hers? - I'm not too sure, but their eyes look directly into mine; it's like they aren't even alive. I don't even see a slight shine; those blue eyes are dead.

"Who am I speaking to?" The voice asks again.

Kent! Kent Reeds! I'm 28 years old. I work at my grandfather's company, Richard Reeds & Reeds. Even though I'm disowned by my family, I don't want to die like this. I just fell from the sky. Whatever you want, just ask! "Just like that I lost whatever little composure I had left.

"Ahahahaha! Let me make sure I understand you correctly," the voice echoes outside the girl. "You have a weird name like Kent Reads, like reading a book, pssh, and you fell out of the sky! Oh, and don't even get me started on that made-up company!"

What is this guy's problem!? I thought to myself, "I'm telling the truth! I was in an elevator and then fell from the sky!"

The voice snaps back with even more laughter on top of "Oh, you're a funny one! Ahahaha, alright, alright, Sam, bring him in; we'll get the truth out of him somehow!"

"Can't? Won't." When she said that phrase, I felt a shiver down my spine, but before I could retort, she looked behind herself and then instantly flew a few feet into the air. In the exact same instance, I saw a bright light zoom past where we previously were, and where my parachute would've been, it was completely gone.

"Attacked by WoH," she says. Not like I know what that means, but I obviously know that's bad, but despite that, all reason goes out the window, and I attempt to struggle free again to no avail. "Attempting to retreat, will not attack."

That's when I see it—two people. It was just a glimpse, but I saw them flying. This time, there was no steam from a jetpack, at least none that I could see. What I saw were real-life wyverns. They were flying on wyverns of all things. Then another boom goes off; it's another fire shot. I don't see where the fire could be coming from; they don't seem to have any weapons. It's quite literally coming out of thin air.

The lady and I are in pursuit of those two behind us; she flies out of the way continuously, avoiding every attack that comes our way, explosion after explosion. It was only a matter of time before she got hit by one of those attacks.

Bang, just like that, she gets hit square in the back, and she lets me go. I guess my struggling to get free the entire time didn't help my situation one bit. Quickly losing sight of her, my falling doesn't slow down. I get closer and closer to falling towards the ground. Then it's all white.

Suddenly, I feel something, something new; this pain cannot be described, maybe not yet, but I can feel it slowly. At this instance I can say with confidence that the whole life flashing behind your eyes thing isn't true, but time does go slower. "Why am I so unlucky..." I think to myself, and then consciousness leaves my body. Then all fades to black.

Just as fast as I fade to black, I'm back in that white void again and face-to-face with another strange person? Thing? The best way I can describe it is that it was a green spirit; it has a physical form, yet it's constantly changing. However, I can clearly tell it's at least attempting to act human. It has a head, yet it has no features that a head would have—no ears, mouth, eyes, nothing like that. The only thing she had was long, obviously dyed, cyan hair, which reached well below her shoulders.

Despite being in a white void, both the figure and I are clearly standing on some kind of ground, and then it finally speaks:

"Who am I? That is an interesting question, so just call me Question from here on, alright!?" It says with the same mechanical voice I heard earlier in my head. I take a step back and ask, "Who are you? What are you?"

"Didn't I just tell you who I am!? Right, I did right!" it says in a rather annoyed tone. "Oh wait, did I not tell you what I was? I can't tell you that, not yet at least, not until I see how far you can get. The only reason I'm meeting you now is so you know I exist."

"Wait, but—" I try to question it some more, but I'm quickly interrupted by the entity again. "Listen here, the key to your life depends on your will; however, it'd be cruel to end here." The being coughs, or at least pretends to, then says, "Power Activation: Question 1. Now then, buh-bye, that's my first gift to you. Oh, and good luck with the other~!" Even though it has no mouth, I can visualize it grinning at me as it raises its hands and waves me goodbye.

Two people, I open my eyes to two people while lying on what I think is a bed; I can't move a single muscle. Anything further than those two people was way too fuzzy, and even though my sight is fading, those two people left an impression.

The man on the left, even while I was laying down, I could tell was clearly taller than the average person, bigger than an average person, and had teeth that were more yellow than an average person. That nasty grin he's giving me is giving me all the wrong vibes about my current situation.

The lady on the right was probably average-sized in about every area of her body save for her extremely short black hair. In contrast to the man she was standing beside, she didn't let out a single grin, but I could tell from her sharp eyes that she either considers me a threat or is currently running dozens of questions in her head.

Now, one thing they both had in common was the black clothes they were wearing, though before I could examine them further, the man on the left spoke.

"Like he said, we got questions for you, and now that he's gone, I'll get the answers one way or another," she says with a stern voice. Then the lady picks up a briefcase and slams it on the desk right next to my head. The last thing I'm able to see before I lose consciousness again is her opening the case, yet I have no idea what's in it.

"So...unlucky." Then I fade, not knowing when or if I'd wake up again.
