Chapter 525:

An 8-mate puzzle [Special]

En Passant Grandmaster

"Welcome back! This time, we got a puzzle. See, Mario felt like doing a game, but with a twist. So here's how it goes. First, I go e4, then he goes e5. Next, knight f3, and f5, Mario's second favorite opening, the Latvian Gambit. E captures f5, e4, knight g5, still following? Queen captures g5, d4, queen captures f5, f4, and en, en, en passant! That's e captures f3 on the notation front. And now the puzzle begins; is it possible to mate White on move 8?" Kisha asked.

The point of this exercise is to determine if it is simply POSSIBLE for a mate to occur in tow moves. That means the goal is simply to determine that, meaning blunders might be necessary.

"Yeah, this is a PUZZLE. It's not an official match. So first off, White needs to fuck up, but fuck up in a way that will make a mate in two possible. How about knight a3? Then we can do f2, check," Kisha mused.

That won't work. King d2 and king e2 aren't moves away from mate.

"How about king d2? Then queen goes d3, check, but king goes back to e1. That should make mating easier- No, e2's covered, f2's just a check."

How about king f2?

"King f2 for move 7? OK. Now what?"

Queen captures c2.

"'Queen captures c2'!? But that- Wait, goal's just to mate in 2 to prove it's possible. OK, OK, I can see it now. King g1, then pawn f2, checkmate!"

And that's the puzzle hope you enjoyed that.
