Chapter 12:

Dodge tank

Our Town in another world

Winona smiled as she watched Aoi and Rosa charge into the open field. "This is just too easy. Let's fire a few wounding shots first," she thought as she pulled back her bow and let loose an arrow.

Even though no magic was used in the shot, the arrow flew faster than the wind, slamming right into Rosa's left shoulder with such force, she found herself being hurled forward, tumbling into the ground and muddying herself up even more.

"Hell fucking yeah! Now try me," Aoi grinned as she turned around and stopped running.

Rosa began screaming in pain as she laid on the ground, grasping her shoulder, but she was still able to take note of her surroundings. "Aoi... are you actually playing decoy for me? I take back what I said. You-"

Thunk!

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Booyah! One for me!" Aoi grinned.

Poor Rosa had misunderstood Aoi again. Aoi hadn't stopped to try and divert fire from her to herself, she just wanted to be gamer and run Winona's ammo dry even if that meant Rosa would get hit by the oncoming arrows.

"Not even caring about your friend behind you? Here I thought you were heroic," Winona laughed, using the wind to carry her voice so that Aoi could hear her.

"You don't get good, you get powned," Aoi grinned as she dodged another arrow, which ended up landing mere cm away from Rosa's right calf.

Winona smiled and began letting loose a volley of arrows, all of which Aoi ended up dodging. Poor Rosa was either hit in non-vital areas with them or had them land just short of hitting her. Needless to say, it was hell for her.

Eventually, Winona did run out of arrows, and when she did, she smiled at Aoi. "You're something special. No one's ever drained me of my arrow supply. Too bad I can just make more."

Summoning her wind magic, Winona began slicing up the tree branches, fashioning them into just two arrows. However, she didn't fire them off at all, pocketing them instead before leaping down to the ground.

"You've earned my respect. Thus, I'm only going to use two more arrows from now on. One for you, and one for the pin cushion," Winona declared.

"Really? So you think you can take me down with just one arrow? Try," Aoi grinned as she strung Rosa over her backside and began running.

"With that baggage on you, I'd like to see you try and dodge," Winona smirked as she readied one of the two arrows.

"Well thanks for nothing, "friend"! I can't move now thanks to you dragging me into the field and living your deluded dodge tank fantasy!" Rosa fumed.

"Hey, I DID dodge all that shit," Aoi smirked.

"At MY expense!"

"Skill issue. Should've been gamer if you wanted to dodge tank."

"How'd you even manage to pull that shit off anyway!?"

"Because... I'm gamer."

Rosa shouldn't have expected anything else at this point.

Winona then released the arrow sending it whizzing across the plains.

"And there's number 1," Aoi grinned as she stopped and bent down, leading to the arrow whizzing over hers and Rosa's heads.

"Well damn, you dodged that WITH baggage. But you're still just a human, right?" Winona thought as she let loose her final arrow.

This arrow was one Aoi would not be able to dodge, so long as she had Rosa on her back. Aoi had calculated this all too, which was why she did something very human.  Rosa's eyes widened with shock as she found herself being hurled backwards off Aoi's back, catching the malicious grin on Aoi's face as time began to slow.

"And just like in 92, you wanna make the gap, gotta ditch the ride. Though in this case, it's the rider," Aoi thought as she began to charge off.

Tears began to pour out of Rosa's eyes as she inched closer and closer to the oncoming arrow. This was going to hit her. She was going to die.

"Why? What did I do to deserve all this suffering? Aoi, despite all the shit you put me through, I thought you were my friend. Was I just an accessory for you this whole time?" Rosa tearfully thought.

But fate wouldn't be so cruel to Rosa as a rock suddenly flew out of the ground at breakneck speed, hitting the head of the arrow just in time to divert it's trajectory.  Rosa's eyes widened as she watched the rock and then the arrow whizz over her head, just barely avoiding physical contact. But while she might've dodged that bullet, or rather, arrow, there were still numerous arrows embedded in her backside, meaning that if she hit the ground on her back, they'd further impale her, possibly finishing her off.

Yet that was not on the menu as Rosa suddenly felt herself being dragged forward as something grabbed her shirt from the front.  Now it looked like she was about to faceplant, but as her face neared the ground, it stopped suddenly.

"My apologies, but I didn't know this was two versus one, thus I decided to intervene," DaVinci stated as he stood below Rosa.

A smile lit up on Rosa's face while a furious scowl formed on Winona's. "Oi, oi, you filthy little dwarf bear. You can't just interfere mid-hunt!"

"I won't allow this girl's knowledge to be lost, especially due to her ally's betrayal. This girl is the kind of human that must live."

Winona furiously grinned her teeth as she used her wind magic to uproot an entire tree and fashion it into a large arrow. "You want to fuck with me? I'll kill you and your precious girlfriend in one full shot!"

"This will be bumpy!" DaVinci warned as he dug his feet into the ground and began charging forward at breakneck speed, tightly clutching Rosa.

Winona let loose the mighty arrow, this time controlling it purely with wind magic, allowing her to have it weave and turn as she pleased. The scene was reminiscent of a cartoon, with the arrow zigzagging, u-turning, and pulling off all kinds of maneuvers a normal arrow in flight couldn't as it tried to catch DaVinci and Rosa.

"How long is that thing gonna chase us!?" Rosa cried.

"No longer," DaVinci declared as a wall of stone erupted from the earth.

The giant arrow smashed through the wall with ease, but then it was faced with another wall and another, slowing it's velocity greatly. Winona began to sweat as the strain began to hit her, yet she refused to yield. However, the arrival of a second uninvited guest caused her to halt her attack.

Speeding out of the city en route to Rosa's location was a black Tesla sports car with Jenna behind the wheel. Aoi stopped, just as surprised as everyone else, yet Jenna whizzed past her not even bothering to give her the chance to get in.

"I'll double back for you. Right now, I need that other girl. I need to save her before Muki decides to take full control of me again," Jenna thought as she pulled up to Rosa and DaVinci.

Through the car's camera system, Muki was able to see all before Jenna from the comfort of her own room. "That girl even alive?" she snarled through the car's phone.

"Very much so," Rosa scowled as DaVinci helped load her into the backseat.

"How can you even sit with all those arrows in your back?"

"Allow me," DaVinci nodded as he quickly yanked all the arrows out of Rosa, patching up the wounds with mud. "Fear not, this mud will not infect, it's just to clot the blood. Now be off. I'll travel along under the earth," he bowed before tunneling down into the ground.

"Oi, don't just hitch a sick gamer ride without me!" Aoi fumed as she ran up and threw herself into the backseat.

"Looks like everybody's here. Get your ass back to town now, Jenna. I want answers from those two," Muki snarled.

"As you wish," Jenna nodded as she slammed her foot down on the gas and sped off back towards town.
