Chapter 4:

Taking Action

My New Maid Doll

Packing their things, Klet and Briar made their way towards the ruined mansion.
"Are you sure about this? The entire place is barely standing." Klet asked as he grabbed his backpack, adjusting it slightly. Briar just waved her hand.
"Don't worry master, I'm here to protect you from anything. Plus think of the bright side, maybe we can find some clues?" She spoke optimistically as she exited and locked the door behind her. Klet sighed as he prepared himself mentally.
"I just hope we don't get anymore druggies on us." He sighed as the both of them slowly began their adventure. The early morning sun hung above them, a gentle breeze followed them as the air got heavier as they got closer. A heavy and dark aura surrounded the mansion, the stench of decay lingered in the air, a sense of dread washed over Klet.
"You okay master?" Briar asked with a empathetic tone. Klet just nodded his head.
"I'm aright... Let's just get this over with." Pushing on the heavy door, Klet made his way inside, each step was slow and careful, making sure not to damage the floor. Briar followed behind and scanned the ruins. A wave of nostalgia hit her as she could see her morning routine by waking the Wright kids and cleaning the floor and such. Her expression filled with longing and sorrow, those lighthearted and peaceful days were long gone. Noticing her expression, Klet gently grabbed her hand.
"Hey, don't worry. I'm here... it's going to be okay."  Despite not knowing what to say, his grip poured confidence in Briar.
"I'm alright master... It's just hard to remember everything..." Lowering her head, she just continued walking around, searching for any clue to what happened the day she turned into a doll. Klet quickly continued in front of her, determined to protect her. The only path that was clear was the basement. Taking a deep breath, they descended deeper into the cold stomach of the ruins. Turning on his flashlight, Klet scanned the room.
"All clear. Let's go." Looking around, they could only find dust, cobwebs, large spiders and decayed boxes and wardrobes. Inspecting every nook and cranny, they found nothing of use. Turning back, Klet's flashlight fell into a tall and skinny figure behind them. Screaming in fear, Klet stumbled back, Briar stood in front of him.
"Who are you!?" She yelled out. The skinny figure scratched It's head as It took a step forward.
"You... see me? The real me?" It asked, like many voices asked with slight delay. It laughed as It moved closer, It's features even more visible. Night black hair, exposed ribs, skin red with black veins pulsating every second. It's face scarred as it lacked cheeks, leaving it's teeth exposed.
"Looks like you see through my disguise... Fascinating." A long and sharp tongue made it's way out of It's mouth, licking It's lips.
"Speak your name demon!" Briar's fists glowed with a unusual energy.
"You think we so stupid to fall for your tricks? Pathetic." It lunged forward, ready to strike. Dodging out of the way, Briar grabbed It's black hair and pulled it towards her, delivering a strong punch to the demons face. Stumbling back, the demon disappeared into the shadows, moving without a sound. Unable to do anything, Briar stood above Klet, protecting his body.
"Careful master, just trust and believe in me!" She tried to reassure him, but the demon appeared behind her and scratched at her face, tearing her fabric skin, revealing a black liquid that poured out of her. The wounds burned with such intensity, she wanted to rip her head off.
"Just like us. You were always my favorite, the way you wept and begged for mercy on that day... Beautiful." The demon taunted as it let out a horrifying laugh, like hundreds of voices laughed together.
"You... You know about me?... Tell me what you know!?" She lunged at the demon, but It quickly dodged.
"Truly pathetic. You're smart enough to figure it out yourself. Just ask your sky daddy!"
Briar clenched her teeth, ready to strike, but her eyes widened as she couldn't see Klet anywhere. Slowly emerging from the shadows, Klet stabbed the demon with his crucifix. It yelled out in pain and agony as it clawed it's own face, thrashing around, tryin to get it out of it's body.
"MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!" It yelled out in union as the demon hissed and cursed at Klet. Using this as the perfect opportunity, Briar grabbed it by the neck and lifted it in the air.
"Tell me what happened that day! How can I undo my curse!" She yelled out, but the demon tried to claw at her. Klet just sprayed holy water at it, causing more pain.
"GO TO HELL! ALL OF YOU! I REFUSE TO LEAVE!" Klet was stunned as he saw a true demon cry and throw a tantrum like a child.
"Answer me! What happened!?" Briar demanded. The demon only coughed and spat out black liquid.
"Mammon... will deal with you two." It spoke quietly as it's body crumbled into dust that fell through the floor. The both of them stood in shock It took Briar a few second to register what happened.
"DAMNIT! DAMNIT TO HELL!" She yelled out and slammed her fist onto the ground, causing the entire mansion to shake. Klet quickly took her hand and pulled.
"Stop it! Get out of here!" He yelled out as the ceiling caved in and collapsed. Leading her outside, the entire mansion behind them collapsed, shaking the ground a bit. Briar just watched with shock and anger, meanwhile Klet put his hand on her shoulder.
"Briar...What the hell have we gotten our self into?" He whispered as whispered could be heard, surrounding them entirely. Looking up, Briar saw several black spirits circling them.
