Chapter 3:

Meet Tabu

ALAMAT — Meet the Gods

It was a shadow that made you face the ground. It blotted the sun. You looked at your hands and feet, realizing that somehow you were fragile and that there’s beauty in it. Maybe it was the sort of feeling that made you smile as your life flashes before your eyes but that death never came.

That’s why you raised your head in wonder and saw a child, more like a newborn infant cradled by three pairs of gorgeous wings that seemed to stretch as far as the clouds wedging the skies. There’s both peace and a sense of anxiety in its presence. The same way how one would stare down at the flat distant ground while standing at the edge of a cliff. You felt your vision spiraling into detail, making you see how hard the rocks were, how sharp it was, and the bugs that crawled over as this coldness climbed onto the tips of your fingers, raking in this chill through your skin that soon paled your face in this dizziness that forced you to stand back, gasping.

You soon realized that you’ve been standing below and gazing at this bright majestic abyss that said nothing yet and stared back. It giggled.

“On your feet, human…”

What resounded was a matured voice of a woman.

“On your feet, human,” it repeated. “remember your place, plant your feet on the ground, puff that chest, raise your chin and face me with pride. You have earned this.” It seemed to be smiling. “You have earned my audience.”

It spreads its wings and shadows you, but you’ve felt glory, peace, and a sense of freedom as though the stars beyond were just your reach—you felt safe.

“Root yourself firmly to the ground, face forward, smile, and reach for me.”

For a moment, you saw a woman with long black hair, brown skin, and a pure loving smile.

“Be free, and I will help you reach it.”
