Chapter 9:
Swim!
"That's the name of our Albatross company," Finn whispered to Marina.
"Ohh, thanks. I was wondering about that. Cool name." She replied.
"There is actually a funny story behind it; I can tell you if you want."
"Of course." Marina was interested.
"Hello, kids. Did you eat anything in your break?" Finn's mother walked towards them.
"I'll tell you later." Finn said to Marina.
"Yes, Mom, we bought flynut cookies." He answered the mother's question.
"Just that?"
"And chocolate milk."
"Phhh, and you call that a meal. Ahh come, I'll give you a real breakfast."
"I never said it was perfect, but we were in a hurry."
"Excuses. I see how it is; when I'm not around, no one knows what real food looks like. Come here." Miss Cherry's words were not up for debate.
"I guess your cabins will have to wait; breakfast comes first." She commented while walking through the passageway.
The Albatross they were on was just as luxurious from the inside as it was from the outside. Miss Cherry stopped in front of the dining area.
"Matilda, could you please prepare them a table and get the food from the box I left there an hour ago? There should be a yellow paper on it with the initials B. F. F." Miss Cherry picked the sunglasses from her head and talked to the lady in the cooking uniform.
"Right away." The lady said politely.
"Usually we serve breakfast from seven to ten in the morning, but since the situation is like this, I think we can make an exception." Finn's mother said to the three of them.
"Found it," the lady said.
"What does B. F. F. stand for?" Marina asked Finn and Camellia.
I mean, I know what it usually stands for on Earth, but I doubt it has the same meaning. Also, it doesn't make any sense. Why would they name the box with food "best friends forever"? I agree that food is your best friend, but I don't think that Miss Cherry would write something so silly.
Marina thought in her head.
"Hmm, I don't know." Camellia said.
"Oh, B. F. F., obviously, breakfast for Finn and I added in the bracket for his friends too." The mother said.
Yeah, obviously, what else could it be?
Marina burst into laughter.
"Mom!" Finn felt embarrassed.
Camellia laughed as well.
"What? I knew you kids wouldn't eat properly, so I came prepared."
"The issue is not in food but in the title. Did you have to name it like that?"
"That was the first thing that came to my mind."
"Oh, really?"
"Yes. Now stop talking and go eat your belated breakfast."
Mother and son argued in a silly way.
A lady in a cooking uniform brought food to the table. There were cinnamon cereals with yogurt, various fruits, and three glasses of blackcurrant juice.
"And here are some scrambled eggs with zucchini and cheese, just how you like it." The lady said to Finn.
"If I remember correctly, you like boiled eggs, Camellia?" She wanted to double-check.
"Yes, thank you." The fairy replied politely.
The lady turned to Marina and asked,
"And what can I get for you?"
"Oh, scrambled eggs too, please."
"Right away, and would you like some cheese or vegetables on it?"
"Oh, do you have mushrooms?"
"Of course. So one scrambled egg with mushrooms?"
"Yes, and oh, a bit of onions if it's not a problem."
"Not at all." The lady said and rushed to the kitchen.
After breakfast, Miss Cherry showed them the way to their cabins.
"I made sure your cabins are all next to each other. If you need anything, you can ask any crew member, and if something serious happens, ask them to call me right away. I'll be busy with guests for the next three days, but I'll make sure to check on you when I can."
"Mom, we're not children. It's okay; you do your work in peace without worrying about us because we'll be fine."
"Ohh, it won't be peaceful, that's for sure. This promotional party is really important for the company, and I want everything to go right."
"It will. You always succeed in the end."
"Awww, thank you, Finn. I knew you were still my little boy who only acts cool now."
"What? Moooom!" Finn's face was red as a tomato.
"Alright, ahm. What did I want to say? Oh yes, here. Always carry these brooches on you while you're on Albatross. They will be your keys, and if people see you with this brooch, they will know right away you are with me. With the brooch you can move freely around any area on the Albatross, get food and drinks, and oh, and it'll be your ticket for the pool party. Ahh yes, about the pool. Listen carefully now to every word I say. The pool party is in three days. However, since I know you kids like swimming, I know you won't wait until then, looking at you, Finn! "
"Whha...noooo."
"Ahm, you can use the pool from tomorrow onwards, but only in the morning hours from six to nine in the morning because breakfast ends at ten, and guests will be sure to see you, and then some of them will want to use the pool too before the party, and I can't bother extra security to come just for that, so please, if you want to use the pool before the party, make sure no one else sees you and that you leave before nine. If you can promise that, we have a deal."
"Well, I know I'm not a morning person, but for this I'll wake up at five if I have to." Finn sounded determined.
"We won't let you down, we promise, Miss Cherry." Camellia said.
"Thank you for letting us use the pool, Miss Cherry, and oh, for breakfast too!" Marina thanked politely.
"Not a problem at all, but please don't tell anyone I let you use the pool in advance."
"We won't." They said at the same time.
"Alright, I really have to go now. After the party, I'll be more available."
"Please don't worry about us." Finn said to his mother.
"Easy for you to say; you're not a parent here."
"Nope, but I'm not a little kid either, so you shouldn't worry so much."
"Mother's worries never disappear." Mother said before she left.
"Yesss, we can use the pool!" Finn sounded happy.
"And since we'll be alone too, we can use that to study the mermaid's bracelet, right?" The boy looked at Camellia.
"Well, yes, true. Being near water will help us to discover the abilities of this bracelet." She replied.
"Ha, I may not know a lot like you about the mermaid magic, but my intuition was telling me it has to do with water." Finn was pretending to look smart.
"Aha, your intuition." Camellia giggled.
"Oh come on, you know what I meant."
"Yes, yes, suuure."
Fairy teased the boy.
Marina looked at the bracelet.
"Don't worry, Marina, we'll figure this out. I got my books; tonight we can meet up in my cabin and start the research. Now that you know Alisian, you'll be able to read the books too. It'll be faster if all three of us look for information at the same time." Camellia said to Marina.
"True. Thank you, both of you. " Marina looked at them and smiled.
"No problem; what are friends for?" Finn said.
Friends...
Marina was lost in her thoughts for a moment.
Suddenly the ship started to move.
"Huh?" Marina was caught off guard.
"Is it noon yet?" Camellia asked.
"Oh, don't worry, Marina, the albatross is just taking off... Wait, this is your first time on the flying ship! You have to see that in person. Come with me." Finn started running.
"Come, hurry up, trust me, you don't want to miss this." He said.
"True." Marina sounded excited.
"Here, take my hand so we don't get lost in the crowd."
"Okay."
"Camellia, we'll meet you on the deck. You'll definitely arrive there before us anyway." Finn said as he and Marina were leaving.
"Heh, true." The fairy smirked.
They were running through the passageway and crowd. As soon as they reached the deck, Finn started looking for the free spot. The clock was ticking.
"There!" He pointed with his finger at one free spot.
They arrived just on time. The flying ship took off. It was a magnificent view.
"Wow!" Marina was amazed.
