Chapter 1:

Cute Healer Girl

The Snake’s Betrayal #2

“What!!...you’re the daughter of King Vojatu?”

I was pretty shocked hearing that. Of course I was — my teacher and I had been training for months to kill a man, and suddenly, out of nowhere, his daughter was standing right in front of me.

At first I thought it might be a setup, but she radiated innocence. Her pure, beautiful eyes alone were enough to make any boy fall for her.

Before I could even say anything else she interrupted me. “Yes, I am. But what are you doing here? In this jungle, among the evil snakes?”

“Well, I got the same question for you… What are you doing here in this jungle, among the evil snakes?” I replied hesitantly.

“Me… Oh, let me tell you the full story very quick, so basically……” Then she spoke for at least ten minutes—nonstop, without pausing to take a breath, I suppose.

Long story short: by the time she was born she had stayed in her castle and never once visited the outside world. So she ran away from her house and travelled through the forest during the day because she thought snakes sleep in the day; she travelled by daylight and hid at night.

From her speech I figured out a few things: she was a little dumb, very talkative, innocent, carefree, and madly cute.

“Oh yeah, by the way what’s your name?” she asked in a childlike voice.

“Umm… you can call me Cid.”

“That’s a big name—‘youcancallmecid,’” she said honestly, without any sarcasm. I knew she wasn’t bright, but maybe I should drop the word not bright.

“Nooo… My name is Cid. Just Cid.”

“Ohkkk, so your name is Cid. Nice to meet you Cid. My name is Maya and I’m the daughter of King Vojatu. Do you have any hobbies Cid? Don’t ask about mine ok... You’ll laugh like hell hearing that... Ok, let me tell you but don’t tell anyone else ok… So, my hobby is……” Then she started blabbering again.

Her survival skills were literally zero; she was telling me everything about herself without even knowing who I was.

But I had no idea why her stupid chattering was giving me a kind of relief — a strange calm I hadn’t felt in months. Maybe it was because I was talking to another human being after so long.

After talking, convincing her, and warning her about the insane, stinking power of snakes, I finally convinced her to return to her castle. But the problem was — how would she get back?

I wanted to leave her and let her go back the same way she came, but her innocence and my mom-made personality wouldn’t allow me.

So I started a new three-day journey back to Skyrip Mountain to drop this girl at her home. I was hoping to find some eagles at the start, but since our area was very dangerous and tree-dense, eagles avoided coming here.

After our first six hours together, I was visibly tired and annoyed by her nonstop chatter. We took shelter inside the hollow of a very tall tree. I decided not to sleep that night because of the predators that roam this planet at night.

Thankfully no snake attacked us that night, and all I could hear were Maya’s loud snores. I still had no idea how the hell she had survived alone in this jungle for so long. The next morning I’d slept only a few hours because of my new partner’s continuous chattering and her boredom after waking.

On our way back to her place, her nonstop talking had worn me out. I stopped listening—everything she said just drifted through one ear and out the other.

Then, out of nowhere... she started crying.

“What happened?” I asked.

She was crying because she suddenly remembered her mother—King Vojatu’s wife—who had been killed by a snake, as I’d been told earlier.

“The last time I spoke this much was in front of my mother,” she said with teary eyes and pinkish cheeks. Maya—like any daughter—loved her mother a lot.

I asked her if she thought all this was right: where thousands of snakes were punished for sins they didn’t even commit. I thought she’d defend her father, but her answer shocked me.

“I don’t think this is right at all. My father needs to be stopped.”

“So why aren’t you trying to stop your father?” I asked.

“I tried, but Father won’t meet me; he doesn’t meet anyone. It’s been three months since I last talked to him. He only meets me when he’s missing me or wants to give me some advice.”

“So, what was the last thing he said to you?” I asked.

“He said: ‘ALL SNAKES NEED TO DIE!!’” she replied.

I knew I had no other choice but to kill his evil father to save this world, but first I needed to find a way to get back to my planet with my senpai.

“By the way, do you know Miwa—the girl who lives in your castle?” I probed.

“Oh, you mean Miwa? My sister-in-law!!” she replied instantly.

“What!! Sister-in-law….” I shouted.

“I mean my future sister-in-law,” she corrected.

Hearing that, my blood pressure normalized again and I breathed out.

“What do you mean by ‘future sister-in-law’?” I questioned Maya, trying to keep my voice steady.

“Actually, Maya doesn’t want to marry my brother Drax, so he has given her seven days to decide and marry him willingly, or he will force her,” she replied.

“What! How can he do that? How can he force someone to marry him?” I shouted angrily.

“He always does that. He uses force to get the things he can’t get normally,” Maya said, and even she knew he was wrong.

“Well, I guess I need to add her brother to my kill list too!” I thought to myself.

I understood I didn’t have time to go back and gather allies. This would be dangerous and foolish, but there was only one way to save my senpai—get inside Skyrip Kingdom again, free her, and kill anyone who stood between her and her freedom.
