Chapter 3:

The day it all changed (part 2)

Devil's Gate

I open my eyes and wake up to an unfamiliar ceiling.

'Where am I?' I muttered as I move the blanket and look at my body, everything was normal except one thing.
Normally I sleep with my undergarments still on but when I looked down, they were nowhere to be seen.'I am butt naked in an unknown room' I think to myself as I look around for my clothes.

It wouldn't take long for me to find them as they were on a little table next to my bed, but when I look at my bra I notice that a small part at the bottom for the left "inhabitant" is missing, it's not a huge deal since it still serves it's function, but it confirms that what had happened was not a dream.
I put on my panties and bra as to not be completely naked and grab my pants.
As I put on my pants I notice a hole in my T-shirt aligning with the missing part of my bra.

After I finished putting on my pants I pick up my shirt and notice another smaller hole on the other side confirming that what had impaled my body had gone all the way through.
I look down at my body and see that there is no trace of what had happened to me left there, not even a scar had taken it's place.

I look at the table another time and notice a letter written in almost indecipherable handwriting, kind of like a doctor; but worse.
Under the letter was another T-shirt, this one was a dark-blue one, the type you'd find in the male section of a clothing shop.

I picked up the letter and deciphered the text on it, the letter read:

Sorry for the broken clothing. I couldn't get anything else in time but I left one of my spare shirts under this letter.
I know it's probably not something you like, but you have to make do for now.
As for the bra.
I don't know any of your sizes, so I couldn't just go out and buy a spare one.
But the damage to yours is minimal so I think it will be fine.
- Scraft

I put down the letter and my broken shirt and pick up the spare this "Scraft" person left me.
As he said in his letter, this one isn't really my style but I couldn't care less at the moment.

The thing on my mind right now is how I was able to survive what had happened to me.
"Could it have been a dream?" I thought, but it wouldn't explain how my clothes got damaged.
I decide not to think too much about it as the answer might be somewhere in this house I ended up in.

I put on the shirt and open the door to my room, on the other side I see a hallway.
I step into the hallway while making mental notes of where I'm going so I don't get lost.
I arrive at the end of the hallway and find a set of stairs going down on my right.

I decide to walk down the stairs and I find myself in a living room.
It wouldn't take long before I hear a door open, I look towards the sound and hear 'Ah, you're already awake'.
The voice sounds familiar but I couldn't immediately recognize who he was.
I look at him and before I knew I blarted out 'Mochi?'.

'Who else would it be.' he said jokingly, he looks way more relaxed than usual, 'are you OK?' he asks.
'Why wouldn't I be' I answer as if nothing happened.
He looks at me as if I had survived an earthquake and came out on the brink of death, 'You did get seriously injured, but I never thought it would have effect on your memory' he says to me.

His words triggered a chain reaction in my head that make me blaze out 'so that wasn't a dream?'
'Sadly enough not, you got impaled pretty hard but I was able to heal you in time' he answers.

'Healing? Is he talking about magic?' I thought 'If so that would explain everything that happened.
It does sound ridiculous, but I can't rule it out as a valid possibility as there is no other clear way to explain all of this.'

'You can't get what happened out of your head right.' he says to me with the look as if I figured out a secret almost nobody is supposed to know.
As he stares into my eyes he tells me 'I will leave this choice to you, I can explain everything that happened and introduce you to a brand new world. Or I can make you forget everything that happened today and make you wake up as if you were sick.'

As I try to process these options he continues. 'I know that none of these options sound good, but you'll have to choose.'
'So I get to choose between a normal life in ignorance and a life where I know the truth behind this world' I say.

He immediately replies 'Exactly, but in this case you could see that ignorance as heaven if you don't have a good tutor'
That sentence was the last piece I needed to figure out that magic really is a thing in this world.
'I would like to learn magic then' I say with the confidence of a student who knows every answer on the test before it was even handed out to him.

He looks back at me and says 'Good, I'll have you stay here for a couple days so I can drill the basics of magic into your head. I'll also make the school tell your parents that you will be going on a small trip for a couple days. So you don't have to worry about going home.'

'Is there a reason I can't go home?' I ask him and he immediately answers my question with 'The first rule of magic is that you can't let anyone from the normal world figure out you can use it, it's the reason you got attacked after seeing that battle. If I were to let you go home you might tell somebody about magic, or you might get killed by someone who figured out you know about magic. I can't let any of that happen, so for the foreseeable future I'll have you stay here.'

I wish I could come up with a reason to doubt him, but it all makes sense.
The chance someone could figure it out, or even worse already knew about this would be a threat to my life if Mochi wasn't around to defend me.
No matter how hard I think about it, he is right and I can't deny that.

'It's already quite late, you slept for a long time and I think the wound hasn't completely healed yet' he says, and again he's right.
While the wound had closed on the outside, it didn't feel like it had finished healing.
I look at the clock on the wall and notice how late it was.
'10:24 PM' the hands on the clock read, I had been unconscious for a long time.

I walk back to my room, take my phone and notice that my classmates had asked me if I was fine.
I ignore the messages because I'm tired and have other things taking up my thoughts for now.
For some reason I didn't get any actual sleep while I was unconscious.

I undress myself and make myself comfortable in bed. I fall asleep in a record breaking time.
