Chapter 20:

A dead personality.

Yui

“It’s morning, you are free now” Aku climbed the ladder to the top mattress on the three story bed trying to not wake the boys under along the way.

“Finally” Yui laughed “it was really uncomfortable to sleep like that. My nose is so itchy~”

She released Yui’s hands from the rope and the two went down to the kitchen.

Yui made himself a bowl of the cereal he likes so much and Aku ate an apple.

“So, what are your plans for today?” Aku took another bite from her perfect green apple.

“I will ask Nana to take me to a better place today” Yui said with a serious face.

“To bring Nakata back?” Aku thought Yui was joking.

“Bingo” Yui filled his mouth with a spoonful of cereal and pointed at Aku.

“Wait what?” Aku leaned forward to Yui “I thought you were joking, will you actually go there?”

“I don’t have any speeches to do for a whole week, I will revive Nakata and then I will take care of Fuyuki” Yui said it like it was an easy task.

“I can’t allow it” Aku knocked the table loudly.

“I already made up my mind” Yui’s deep blue eyes looked straight inside Aku’s eyes “now, if you don’t mind, the earlier I will go to a better place the faster I will revive Nakata.”

He left the house and Aku didn’t follow him outside, she knew once he made up his mind it would be hard to make him abandon the idea.

Yui knocked on the door of the house next door a few times.

“What do you want?” Fuyuki opened the door loudly and almost made Yui fall on the floor in surprise.

“I want to talk to Nana” Yui said.

“Oh, of course” Fuyuki smiled sweetly and then shouted loudly “Nana! wake up already! Yui want to talk with you on something dumb!”

Nana came in seconds, she had two big black circles under her eyes, her thick hair looked thicker than ever, she wore a pink nightdress, her face looked furious yet tired.

“Why did you wake me up so early in the morning?” she asked angrily.

“It’s 6:00, it’s not that early” Fuyuki shouted back.

“Nana, I would like to talk privately” Yui said before the two will start to fight.

“Come to the kitchen” Nana said and started to walk to the kitchen, Yui followed her. Fuyuki meanwhile sat on the cold floor near the door, he liked the cold feeling of the floor.

“I will arrive straight to the point” Yui sat on one of the seats in the kitchen “I want to go to a better place and revive Nakata.”

“You can’t” Nana said confidently.

“Once you step inside a better place your soul stays there and you can’t return.”

“One of you is the god of death right?” Yui just thought of something “even if you just check if everything works fine you can ignore me and Nakata going out of a better place.”

“Death is one of the roles the main god didn’t give to any god” Nana took a banana from one of the cabinets.

“If this main god is so tough, why doesn’t he care about almost all the god's population disappearing?” Yui was a bit angry.

“I know nothing about the main god” Nana took a bite from her banana “maybe he wanted it to happen, maybe he got bored of his old gods, I don’t actually know.”

“I don’t care if I won’t make it alive. Take me to a better place” Yui commended.

“I just told you, you won’t” Nana’s expression was very flat “is dying is a risk you wish to take?”

“I feel like someone is waiting for me there” Yui looked motivated “I will return alive with Nakata, whatever it takes.”

“As you wish little princess” Nana clicked her fingers.

The view in front of Yui changed, from the gray house with peeling walls to a black surface and a big silver gate in front of him.

Yui took a big breath and opened the silver gate, he walked slowly, crossing the silver gate, nothing but black could be seen. Yui knew a better place was near so he kept walking slowly, a minute, an hour, a day. The time kept moving, so did Yui’s legs. He got further and further from the gate, the gate became hard to see, the black only increased and increased. Five days passed, Yui didn’t get tired at all, he just kept walking until he will find something in the dark.

“You are Yui Takashima right?” said a little boy that appeared from nowhere.

The boy wore a loose tank top, pair of black jeans that was way too big for him,a black tie was wrapped around his neck. Yui looked at the boy’s face, two huge eyes, one red as blood and the other one warm brown.

“I need you to help me with something” said little Fuyuki.

“Is that a better place?” Yui looked around him, he walked for a long time in the black already.

“This is the gate to a better place” said little Fuyuki “in order to get to a better place you need to walk for a whole year considering the speed you walked in.”

“This is weird” Yui said to the boy “you look just like Fuyuki but don't feel like Fuyuki, something is different.”

“Of course you will think so” he pointed on himself with a flat face “I’m what Fuyuki was supposed to be.”

The two were silent for a few seconds.

“I’m sorry for your friend” the boy broke the silence “I tried to reach for Natsuki too using an illusion but he ignored me, he didn’t show up so I tried reaching for you too.”

“So you killed him” Yui looked calm although he felt the exact opposite.

“I just used another ilusion to make things he already had to grow bigger” the boy had the same flat expression like Nana’s “I need you to help me to revive myself.”

“I didn’t understand what the hell are you from the start” Yui tried to understand who he was talking to.

“It’s simple” the boy sat on the floor “the Fuyuki you know is a fake, his personality is something he made himself. He started to believe so hard the personality he made is his real personality until he killed me, his real personality. Please give me your body so I can return to my real one.”

Yui was confused, is it actually possible to kill a personality? he thought to himself.

“You can use someone else’s body, I came to revive Nakata not you!”

Fuyuki’s real personality smiled evilly revealing a sharp big teeth

“I already decided.”

Yui’s body disappeared but his soul stayed the same place, he looked the same but felt different, a soul without a body.
