Chapter 6:

Who? Jealous? Me? (Nervous Laugh)

The Wind Showed You to Me

The idol in disguise got to the cafe before the opening and wanted to pull out. There was a crowd mostly consisting of teenagers and young women already, and he couldn't afford to make any commotion or troubles. Kazuya bit his lips nervously thinking what the best option was. He was waiting and looking for an occasion like that for weeks, but circumstances… A few steps closer and he found out and most of them are here because a super handsome cashier is working there.

It wasn't jealousy but some kind of anxiety, which started to sprout in Kazuya’s heart. At the same time it gave him a bit of determination to stand in the long queue, however the fear of being recognized didn't leave him alone. The relief came when finally the door was open and fortunately there was no fight about who will get first to the counter. This situation reminded Kazuya of fan meetings, a thought about dealing with something like that almost every day made him shiver.

The brightest star of the cafe wasn't the only worker in the front line. There was also his less attractive coworker, but at least honestly kind versus the popular one. He didn't even try anymore to gain the attention of customers, who just weren't interested in buying but interactions with mister handsome. The smile lightened up his face when someone actually in need of coffee came, just like Kazuya, who couldn't understand why someone deliberately was not seizing the opportunity to be served right away.

The idol took a black coffee and a sandwich, which was looking so nicely and screaming how tasty it had to be as for sweets it was too early. He took the strawberry cake to share with the rest of the group, even though he shouldn't have because of an eternal diet they were on, but every time not following it was so satisfying, that he didn't have any problem with it. Kazuya knew they needed it too.

While relishing the tasty breakfast sitting at the best stop to observe, he was thinking if he should ask about the girl, but remembering the gaze of the old lady was like an unbreakable barrier. He wanted to believe in his luck, but would rather do something than wait again. Also the reason to talk with her was necessary, but suddenly his brain couldn't come up with any idea and how to explain why he was looking for her and how he found her. Kazuya didn't expect that conversation with someone might be such a stressful experience and they haven't even started talking yet.

She showed up when he was taking a bite and almost choked because his first reaction was to call her, but he realized that he didn't even know her name. Almost stood up when her hand touched the cashier's shoulder, but stopped at the last moment. No commotion, he reminded himself. Kazuya felt betrayed as he chose him earlier, not the popular one and he must happen to be in a good relationship with this one girl. They were talking for a brief moment and then she disappeared behind the door leading to the kitchen. The idol decided that it is now or never and came up to probably his rival.

“I am sorry, but maybe the girl, who was here a moment earlier made all of this?” he asked, trying not to sound like wanting to start a fight, even though it was tempting.

“Not everything, mostly today’s pastry, including the cake you bought earlier.” The cashier answered politely, but was not hiding suspiciousness. Kazuya felt like he was fighting with some conspiracy about not letting him even say a word to the girl.

“I would love to give her credit for all of this looking amazingly tasty.”

“That’s very nice of you. I will pass your admiration along to her.” He smiled, which only made Kazuya’s eye twitch.

“I would really love to do it personally. I am gonna break my diet for this cake and then live with regrets for a long time, so I don’t know when I will eat cake again.”

The cashier kept a wary eye on the idol while the other was looking at him with determination. This round of their silent fight belonged to Kazuya, and the cafe’s worker asked him to wait, as he will ask the girl if she has a spare moment. He sighed before going to the kitchen, where Natsumi just took out of the oven a baking tray with chocolate cookies. She made sure they were perfect and then realized her friend wanted to talk.

“What’s wrong?”

“There is someone really desperate to meet you. Do you have a stalker? Can you tell me everything?” Haruki sounded worried, but she didn't seem to care.

“What does this person want?”

“He would love to personally pass his admiration for you cakes. I tried to convince him I can do it, but he is pretty stubborn.” Natsumi was silent, so her friend continued but with a lower voice, so the rest wouldn't hear. “Didn’t you say that this student, part-timer at the market, told someone that you work here? And it wouldn't be the first time you were looked for, right? For me it looks really suspicious and dangerous even.”

Haruki got surprised when instead of seeing Natsumi in fear, she was just laughing kindly.

“You are so fearless when it comes to business, but you tremble over me so much. Thank you, Haruki.” She held her hand on friend’s shoulder for a moment. “I will see what it is all about.”

“You sure?”

“Don't worry, get back to customers.”

“Like anyone needs me.” Haruki’s voice was full of bitterness. “I hate shifts like that.”

“With me around too?” Natsumi hit him lightly.

“You are the only one keeping me sane.”

The girl went out of the kitchen and was looking for the person who wanted to talk to her. He showed up right away before her and their eyes met making the whole world around them disappear. She recognized him even though he covered most of his face, but in his gaze she saw pure happiness as he was saying “I finally found you.” and her heart skipped a beat.
