Mimoko sat in silence with Daria in the back of the car as it drove to Tochigi.

"For your information, yes, this is a self-driving automobile of my creation," Ota scoffed.

"Okaa-chan, why are you so afraid of her?" Mimoko whispered.

"She's a genius," Daria scowled.

"So?"

"What's your win-rate against me?"

"About... 29%?"

"If that's the best you can do against me, you won't last a second against Ota. She's the firstborn, and has one of the highest IQs in the world."

"IQ doesn't necessarily-"

"She works with AI. How do you think a woman surrounded by engines would be in chess?"

Mimoko was taken aback by how scared her mother was. Was this side of the family truly that terrifying?

Eventually, everyone reached a large traditional manor. Entering, the three were greeted by an elderly woman with wild red pointy hair.

"Daria... You've been abusing us..."

"Oh what kind of bullshit is this!?" Daria fumed.

"I heard from Oma, you're flauntin' your Inashiki status, but you've been disowned. We'll drag you back here n' punish you if you wanna be an Inashiki again that badly!"

"YOU'RE TRYIN' TO PLAY BOTH WAYS!"

Everyone turned to Mimoko.

"The unsanctioned offspring-"

"No, my name's Mimoko. Nice to meet you too! Now I have no idea what all this about, so how about we set things straight with a proposal. I win at chess, you leave me, okaa-chan, otou-san, our whole family alone!"

"Why would we agree to such a stupid proposal?" Ota grumbled.

"The WWCF president-"

"We do not adhere-"

"Ota, she's got backing. Fine. We'll honor the request, but it won't be ordinary chess. We'll do-"

"Racing kings?"

"What is that?"

"Race your king to the back rank, and whoever gets there first wins."
